Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

Interesting….

“On the elk front, an amendment from Commissioner Ian Wargo was proposed that would have limited the number of elk a person can harvest each year on public land to one elk a year. That amendment failed on a vote of 2 to 4.”

Then the very next paragraph…..

“Non-resident hunter impacts on Montana hunters and the animal populations have been a significant point of discussion in recent years.”

Of course it’s the nonresidents fault. Lmfao.

Well, when Montanans can find more Washington plates than bucks, it tends to become a point of discussion.

No, it's not all the NR's fault and I'd be a fool to think so. But cuts should start at the NR. I don't care what the budget implications are.

It will be interesting if this has any effect I’m not sure it will be a drop in the bucket of what needs to happen.
I don't think it'll have a huge difference but I'll take it. I hope it indicates someone is paying attention.

I don’t disagree, stating this as one of the dreaded Washingtonians. I probably would have started with restricting the purchase of “B” licenses if I was you guys.

If they keep doing what they have been doing the budget is going to break when people quit coming here for lack of deer hunt quality and experience.

But how will the local economies survive without 2500 NR who shopped at walmart/costco and maybe got ice with the gas in tiny towns?

Hearing that parroted from a commissioner made my ears bleed. The additional x,000 bird hunters that come might make up for it and then some anyway.

I probably shouldn't use any particular state as an example. It is surprising though the percentage of WA plates I see in the area I hunt. :) But.....for the most part they are as friendly as any of us and I have no problem with them.

The potential budget shortfall could be made up by increasing all of the NR licenses.

If we are trying to improve the herd, I don't see how reducing NR licenses helps.

Can you explain this more? I don’t see how reducing licenses is a bad thing.

I spend a fair amount of time outside and after about November 10 things go scorched earth and mainly with nonresidents in region 7. I don’t see how this will be a bad thing for mule deer, just probably not nearly enough.
R6 is no different but maybe ive not spent enough November's in R7.

More needs done, for sure, to improve herd. Season structure and tag structure needs adjusted. Ive stated my ideas elsewhere and still stand by them.

This seems more an effort to reduce pressure. I suspect it's as much a minimal effort to shut people up as anything but I'm hopeful.

I thought the exact same thing when that was stated. Was hoping she’d at least go for the 30% counter instead of the 50%.
