My mother is 90, she’s very spry and a great sport. She went on a two week raft trip down the Grand Canyon two years ago. She has always wanted to go to the boundary waters. However she had her shoulder replaced in September and I don’t think I want to plan a trip with mandatory camping every day.
Looking at the map it seems like we might be able to rent a cabin and take a couple of day-trip paddles - maybe even guided - to get a feel for it without committing to a multi-day trip. We might fish, but sightseeing would be the idea. This would be either 3rd week of June or 3rd week of August. Anyone have suggestions about dates, cabin/lodges, or locations? Thank you

There are lodges on the edge of the bwca that offer exactly what you are looking for. Some of the lakes in the bwca are motorized and allow 25hp motors. Latourell’s on moose lake would be one that offers you the option of canoe day trips or use of a motor. Fall lake, farm lake and snowbank are all on the boundary of the bwca on the Ely side that could offer a similar experience. June is usually booked pretty early. August might offer you more options.

Voyageurs national park is another option with many options for lodging.

Thank you! Latourells is the first one I found that actually gave me the idea.
