I’m trapped in a tent in gumbo land USA listening to continuous rain & trying to ration my beer stash. Day 2 of an antelope hunt and it’s likely to keep raining for another full day - meaning I might be stuck here for several days.

So I have some reception and I’m scrolling news on my phone & see they might live stream the fort hood mass shooter’s execution - by firing squad!

This is EXCELLENT. I’d much rather watch that than the thousands of YouTubers creating hunting content.

Then I see another story on a recent “botched” execution where the chemicals didn’t work correctly - so they rush the killer to the ER!?! WTF!?! Was there nobody there with a hammer or pocket knife?!?

Okay unzipping the tent and reaching into the cooler again..

I don't mean this to be a discussion of right and wrong or to shit talk moral standards. I'm referring to the Fort Hood shooter. Some folks are in an uprage because the sentence will be carried out live on TV. My .04 cents is that if you don't like what's on TV, change the channel. I'll bet that there's a few here that have seen someone shot or seen the aftermath. It ain't pretty.

So what's the fine for whacking an antelope without a tag? I found that poaching a protected Tule elk is cheaper than buying the tag and paying a guide

My dad was in the army from the late 60s to early 90s peak cold war. He hated commies with a fiery passion but always begrudgingly said that was one thing the Ruskies got right. Take them out back and put one in the back of their head. Meanwhile here we got gas chambers, electric chairs, lethal or sometimes not so lethal injection what a mess.
