I'm normally a propane guy. Quick and easy, and I know my grill. But I do like a good wood fire occasionally and have experimenting with charcoal. What is your choice, and why?

I've got a pellet, charcoal and a gas. Charcoal by far is my favorite. Gas is nice if your in a hurry. Pellet is nice for smoking but I don't want a smoked steak or burger personally. They've all got there place but if I could only have one. I'd take Charcoal. Also if I did that my wife would kill me, she much prefers gas. She doesn't like messing with charcoal.

Charcoal or a mix of charcoal and wood on the Kamado for me. I use it more for smoking than grilling though - too much of a hassle for grilling just for myself, so I mostly sear burgers, steaks and fish in the cast iron vs. grilling them.

Charcoal as long as I can remember. We had a few propane stoves years ago. Not my thing. I bought a Traeger two years ago based on family request. I’m not sure what to think about it. It smokes good but doesn’t sear steaks. I should sell it and buy a green egg.

Voted wood fire as I used to grill on it a lot before I got married. I still prefer it but probably for the process of getting a fire going. Had a propane grill for awhile but it was a piece of junk. When it died I bought a Pit Boss pellet grill. I’ve had some issues with it, but it does what I need it too. I can’t say I’ve done lots of long or complicated smoking on it but it works for me right now.

Preferred for steaks is a very hot bed of mesquite coals, no smoke. It’s kind of a pain and takes hours to burn down enough wood so it’s extremely hot without any smoke, so usually it’s propane, but I still break out the Weber with charcoal from time to time. The big smoker gets fed split Post Oak for bbq.
