Pooping in the Woods - A question of thresholds

Woods don't bother me. Some pit toilets do though. Before I started carrying a backpack and enough gear to survive for a bit, I have returned to camp missing a sock or shirt sleeve.

I'm down the corner of a map or two.

Snickers wrappers have no absorbency, don't ask how I know.

I did sixty-five years ago, but was only 12 yr old and could poop anywhere at anytime.

Now I prefer the outback comfort of the Joy House.

In the back of my mind, i think there's something down in there, just waiting to bite my junk. So i tend to avoid pit toilets

I have no qualms about in the woods but for 1. People crapping everywhere leaving tp around and 2. Ursa, I prefer to deposit in a location that is not rallying bears.

Generally, I will use pit toilets when in bear country, I try to use pit toilets when in or near campgrounds, but when away from bears and people- behind a tree or off a cliff.

While I feel @Bambistew I generally follow:

I'd argue that if you're that close to the pit toilet, even if you like a good woods poo maybe use the pit toilet to reduce the amount of human poop out there in our lovely woods.

There's an anecdote about a picture in a coffee table book showing, and decrying, the results of a brush fire in a Utah canyon. Edward Abbey later admitted that he caused it by burning, rather than burying TP.
