I've drawn some good tags, but never a true OIL tag. One day maybe, maybe not, the math doesn't really care how I feel about it, haha. I've drawn 2 or 3 where my odds were very low.

Wyoming bighorn and Shiras moose, still have some moose PPs so technically not OIL quite yet.

It’s a rare enough occurrence that I look forward to any close friends drawing a moose, sheep, or goat tag about as much as I want to draw myself. Just getting to go along on one of those hunts with people I enjoy hunting with is an opportunity that doesn't come along very often.

In all honesty I have enjoyed the experience of accompanying friends and family on their hunts at least as much as when I held the tags.

1. Every year NM Oryx, less than 2% odds. Drew 1, 1 for 10
2. Every year NM Bighorn, 0 for 10
3. Every year NM OIL Ibex, 0 for 10
4. 3 years for McGregor Barbary, drew 1 (.6% odds), 1 for 3
5. 4 years of NM Goulds, 0 for 4
5. AZ Bighorn for 8 years, 0 for 8
6. AZ Gould's for 8 years, 0 for 8
7. AZ Rifle Rut Elk for 8 years, 0 for 8
8. AZ Rifle Pronghorn for 8 years, 0 for 8
6. CO Desert Bighorn 3 years, 0 for 3
7. I'll say probably 6 to 10 raffles, 0 there

So overall in the last 10 years, 2 tags with less than 2% odds out of ~80 apps. Which crazy enough, works out to about 2% success odds. lol

Applying in NM. As far as OIL or OIL type tags 0 on bighorn, 0 on oryx, 0 on goulds, 0 on ibex, 0 on barbary, 1 on valle vidal bear drew it 3rd year i starting putting in for the valle.

I’m in the 4 category, but in the last 15 years only because of preference based systems. I’ve drawn absolutely nothing in random draws during that time. Used to hit in randoms routinely back in the 90’s/00’s. But all that’s over now. Last was NH moose in 2012.

Statistically should have drawn 3 or 4 times since 2012 but zero luck.

Kill a big barbary on Mc Gregor?

No, I misjudged. Lol. Stalked a group of 9 Rams that went over the ridge with 1 looking bigger than the others. Came up on them bedded at 50 yards! The one Ram definitely looked big at that distance. He's 28 with 12 inch bases, so still very nice, but definitely under achieved for that draw. Of course on the packout we get within 100 yards of probably 32± Ram. Great hunt!
