I’ll probably sound like a DB here but…I’m getting ready to go on a pretty decent Alaska adventure here shortly, but I’d trade it in a heart beat for another AZ primo elk tag! Make it count!

If your pack is full of beer when you harvest a critter do you:
1. Break the animal down, leave the beer and pack the animal out?
2. Break the animal down, drink beer, pass out, pack out the next morning?
3. Break your animal down, divide pack space evenly among beer and animal, pack out, drink beer and then repeat the next day with the beer you left?

I’m sitting on a cliff overlooking a nice basin in AZ for elk. Have been here 10 days and have been getting my bearings straight, driving roads and trails, checking tanks for water, finding places to glass from, and more or less just getting familiar with the places. It’s been a lot of fun. Season opens in 3 days and I don’t have to show up for work until the 29th, which is 4 days after the season ends. Have not found a big bull yet, but I’m hoping the rut will help that happen. Maybe I’ll see one tonight.

I’ve seen coues deer, mule deer, javelina, turkeys, quail, bear, mountain lion, elk and some really bright yellow black tailed rattlesnakes. Pretty wicked cool country.

I’m envious that you saw a mt.lion.
I’ve lived in the west my whole life and have never seen one.
I’ve seen the scat, tracks, evidence of a kill, heard one screaming and found a skeleton of one, but never a live one.
