It would probably work. Get some heatshrink tubing to protect from scratches, or just wrap the hooks with electrician's tape if you are going for the trailer park look (although I keep any kind of adhesives as far away from my guns as possible). You'll need some sort of spacers so the hooks have somewhere to go, and make sure the pegboard is really well anchored- you'll have a lot of weight with a significant lever arm to it. I'd use 1/4 inch pegboard rather than 1/8 inch for sure, and screw every 12 inches through a furring strip (spacer) into studs.
