I went to a funeral today for my friends step-father. I had never met the man before, but from the talk of his life I knew the man had integraty, caracter and pride in his country. This was a man that signed up for the US Army at 16 years old to go fight in Korea, when his real age was discovered he was honorably discharged. At age 17 he had his mother's permission to join the US Air Force where he did two tours in Vietnam. He retired with 24 years in service and was layed to rest today with military honors. Sometimes it is to bad that we give them honor after they have left our world. This is a man that I have never met, but I deem him a TRUE American Patriot! R.I.P Ed!

Great thoughts. It is a shame that some, especially the Viet Nam vets, haven't been treated as well or recognized to the degree they should. They (our older vets) all had to deal with tons of hardships and paved the way for we current servicemembers. I will always be grateful that there were men like this to take up the causes of our nation and bring us all honor.

I started a friendship with a Disabled Vietnam Vet that I met thru a hunt website and took him on his first elk hunt last year. Although he didnt harvest an elk he had a great trip and will be back to go hunting with me again next fall. This Veteran has my utmost respect for what he endured. I myself being a Veteran show all of our Veterans the greatest respect. My Hats off to you, Ed, Rest in Peace

I sound a little high and mighter with the, "I deem!" This is not me being self appointed. I just feel like this country is losing alot of it's true Patriots as the time goes on. I know we have many still serving and I salute them as well.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this Big Slick. I agree very much with all the sentiments stated above. I have had many opportunities to present our flag to widows and children of some great men who served our country and then came home to Montana. It has always been an honor. I remember one whose wishes were to have his ashes buried in his tackle box, and several whose ashes were spread over their favorite hunting areas. Heard some amazing stories when talking with the VFW before and after military funerals. What an amazing generation, we are losing our nations heros way too fast.
