I'm still figuring out all the joys of being a homeowner. When we got the place the paint looked pretty good and I guess in my mind paint last forever right? Well several years and kids later and apparently I was wrong. So the wife has decided the whole house needs new paint inside and out (outside is brick so just trim there). We're gonna start in the kitchen as it's in the most need. We've decided to do it ourselves because it's painting how hard could it be 🙄. My question for the hunt talk brain trust is what brand paint do you recommend? I feel like I've heard good things about Behr. I guess I've never cared one way or the other to pay attention on paint. It was never my money being spent or going on/in my house before though.

Sherman williams for the outside. Duration, almost $100/gallon. It has lasted a decade without issue, single application rolled on myself. Touch ups still match. We live in the woods and have full seasons. Worth every penny.

For the inside we have used behr, my wife likes the lentil color. Its nice and works, much cheaper.

Totally agree duration exterior, Behr for the interior. Behr is a great paint especially for the money. Also, I absolutely hate painting.

Third on Duration for exterior. They have 30% off sales almost constantly, so plan ahead a little bit - you'd hate to pay full price because you waited til the day before and already did all your prep and there just happens to not be a sale.

Behr has been what we typically use for interior.

It's a solid 2nd to having someone else do it.

If you are dead set on being this angry at each other then be sure to have quality rollers and brushes and do the cleanup properly. It makes the anger flow easier the next day.

I second the very best rollers and brushes you can buy and wash with warm soapy water at the end of the day. Don’t skimp on cheap masking tape, either. Masking is the worst part of the job and it’s a lot worse when you are fighting crappy tape. Wipe off any surfaces you have to mask to get the dust off before you start.

I’d definitely recommend a matte or even flat paint if you aren’t good at this.

Don’t try to undertake this job with your wife. They say misery loves company. I say divorce attorneys love a husband-wife painting team. Send her off with her friends, or at least on errands to pick up supplies you forgot.

Lastly, take your time and do a good job. The one redeeming quality of a painting job is when you can stand back, look at your work, and take pride in it. A fresh coat of paint can do wonders for a room. A shitty job painting will be hard to ever undo.

OCD is a good thing when painting. Don't just start rolling paint, figure out your methods and be anal about it. Get your wet rags ready and immediately clean up any little slops. Get good brushes and rollers and clean them right away. If paint is going where it shouldn't be, slow down, less at a time, whatever it takes, keep it clean.

Using some valspar exterior right now, never again! You dont want to need something in middle of job so get well supplied as mentioned: drop clothes, rags, tape, buckets, rollers/brushes etc. I would strongly recommend to get a sprayer (ceiling especially helpful).
