I'm heading to the Pagosa Springs area for 2nd season elk hunt. Has anyone heard of any troubles accessing the national forests?

I had heard they had hwy 160 to the east closed over wolf crook pass due to the flooding. I used to live there and still have family and friends there I'm keeping tabs on. I can tell you the mud will be a whole nother level of unholy especially South and west of town. They don't usually shut the forest down for any weather events in that area until Dec. 1 I've seen it snow 5' and strand hundreds of hunters and still wide open.

Thanks for the info tk. Hope your family is all well!

I was there last week for first rifle. It was a circus trying to cross creeks. Water is back down and manageable, however mud and ice make hiking dangerous.

I was able to kill my first Elk. A young 5x5. Adventure of a lifetime. Should be plenty of animals to chase. Some outfitters were not even able to get clients up in the mountains on horses. We didn't see any other hunters up high. Good Luck
