Curious if you guys knew any places that sell pack llamas. Looking for either trained or started in training pack llamas?

Wow, goats! Who'd a thought? Told the wife we will never have goats on my spread. May have to reconsider now. Hmmm:confused:

I hear if you get on the list for the guy Randy uses you will be waiting along time to purchase one. You don't just want any llama either, they come in different varieties. The males are also what you want and they cost some serious $$. I believe the guys name is Bow Beatty (not sure on spelling).

Take a look on You Tube, plenty of episodes with Randy hunting with llamas.

That kind of what made me look into them. Currently have a mule but I do most of my hunting by myself and have been part of enough rodeos over the years it’s got me wanting to switch to something a little easier to deal with

goats for the win,,,,, 4 or 5 200lb wheters and have it, and I have couple old mules,,,,
every time I look in a llama's eyes, I swear I can see the devil in there looking back at me, plus goat is pretty good eating, in extreme situations

Is that due to temperament, ability, or some other reason?

Most of the trail heads I go to you can’t get a gooseneck trailer to the trailhead without a flatbed pickup so I’m looking for something I can throw in a stock rack in the back of the pickup. Plus I mostly hunt on my own and I’m sure it’s way easier to control a rodeo with a 350lb llama than it is a 1300lb mule

ive owned over 100 head of horses in my life, and 8 head of mules, I wouldn't take 10 horses for one good mule, especially for day in and out hunting,,,,
now one"trader" mule as we call them, that's been traded around a few times, im pretty aware of them,,,, my mules are 20 and 29 , my best mule died at 38 best we could tell, and we rode and packed 3 elk the year before he died,,,, when the current mules die don't know if I will buy more, been around the pack goats some and am intrigued,, good fencing is a must,, and maybe they wouldn't be hard on my bird dogs, my old mule is hard on dogs,

How many goats does it take for a bull elk?

The wife likes the idea of goats with her horses over llamas

Full grown at 4 years old my lead goat will pack 70 lbs, about 30% of there body weight. 3 full grown goats will take a whole elk out. I run 4 so I get my camp also packed out on 1 trip. With goats you have too bone out all the meat and I suggest too trim as much as possible also. You do not have to pack food or water for goats either. They stop a browse while your hiking around and get most of there water from plants. I did a ton of research before I chose goats over horses/llamas/burros/mules etc. For what you get and have too spend on them it was a no brainer.

In some states domestic goats are a No,No.Diseases somehow transfered?...

Negative.... no conclusive evidence a domestic goat has ever transferred anything to big game animals. For some reason goats get lumped in with domestic sheep in all the studies that have been done. I will look up one of the studies where the big horn sheep and goat together were the only ones that did not die while together. All that have been put in with domestic sheep die.
