Can anyone give me some direction on an over the counter elk area anywhere in Colorado that we would have a good (okay) chance of shooting an elk with a bow does not matter bull cow calf just and elk. Any help would be great and hiking in somewhere is not a big deal.:D

Elk hunting in CO is like shooting gophers, they're everywhere. I'd look around Craig/Meeker area for a start, or pick a place anywhere within 150 miles of there.

Also check out the area around Vail............

Or any where within 1 1/2 hours drive of it;)

I only give out OTC information in exchange for nekid pictures of wives, girlfriends or both:eek:

But I will sell you some LE unit info for $59.99, Oak is a happy customer.

Okay Dink here is a picture of a girl for you not my girl but thought this one might get me some info out of you or at least get you excited....:D

You keep that crap up and I will.................................................................give you all my best spots.

Knees on the side of legs? That is something new.

You have obviously never been to the fatest state in the union, WV......you sure you don't want to trade houses?

WV Hunter.. what is with that? I am about 15 minutes from Harpers Ferry in Virginia but head over the mountian and it is like the land of the super size.. Something in the water???;):D:D

I have the same question, but would prefer the SW part of the state near Durango. I have a yearly commitment to MDA (I produce their local telethon) so I can't leave AZ until after Labor Day and less driving means more hunting for me. Probably packing in solo and looking for bulls only--not a trophy, just a tag filler.

Anywhare around Delores in the San Juan forest is loaded with elk, Look up on West Delores Stoner Mesa or Taylor Mesa, Just drive some of the dirt roads at night and park and listen for bugles and that will give you a starting point. When mozzleloader season starts they will push all the elk deep into the canyons so you will want to get far off the roads and dont be afraid to use your legs.

Thanks Hoggetter, I'll look into those areas. I've been asking this same question for a couple of months without much of a response from the Colorado gurus. Thank goodness for new members!

Sorry DDD, I've never hunted elk south of Grand Junction. Won't be much help.

No worries Oak. If I can make an annual trek to Colorado I won't keep limiting myself to the SW corner but it seems I'm always going to get a late jump on the season. Do you think the CWD would consider moving the season later to help Jerry's Kids.

My plan is to eventually work north until I can trail Dinkshooter to his OTC honeyhole. I figure I'll know his truck when I see it  or at worst I can sit a ground blind at his local Wal-Mart until they put wifebeaters on sale. I hear he's a sucker for the ones with the word HUNK on the front.

Now that is funny:D Cripes if you like rag bulls I am your man.

I lived in Durango and Bayfield for a while. Back then, over all the elk were bigger than northern or central Colorado. I hunted some nasty, nasty steep stuff for a few years. Not much success.

Had a great spot were I always called in bulls. It went up in smoke in 2002 I think.

Any where on the San Juan NF you are gonna find plenty of elk.
