Opportunity has a shelf life

Gear is loaded and the alarm is set. With any luck next 48 goes smooth and I’m sitting in a cabin eating a rib eye. This trip feels different for whatever reason I’m not near as excited as normal the night before. Talked with a local the other day sounds like it’s gonna be a good season.

Good luck Chris! Enjoy every moment!

Before I forget special thanks to @R.K. for the uber ride this morning. Kinda handy having a ht’er that lives 4 doors down. Even if he doesn’t set alarms but still wakes up on time
I definitely set it, but it was MIA when the time came. Still not sure what happened, just glad my bladder decided it was time to get up.

Standing in the middle of no where waiting for daylight. This morning I plan on jumping in a boat with some locals I made friends with last year. They also wanna see me “catch” a moose with the bow. Last night was good saw one nice bull and one giant.

So yesterday we jumped in the boat with the Eskimo buddies. They ran us way up into the middle of no where even for here. At one point the one was standing on the front of the boat breaking up beaver dams so we could get back into this lake. Pretty wild doing 25 mph down a slough that’s 4’ wider than your boat. Once we hit the lake we spotted a bull and some cows and tried making a play on him. Wind was wrong for one approach and it was to marshy to be able to get out downwind. Trying to get down wind we even bumped so cows so it just didn’t seem like the play.

We had spotted another bull from across the lake as we came in and decided to give him a look. Once we got back out onto the main lake could see he had bedded down up on the tundra and the wind would be great. Was blowing hard enough to cover up some noise also. So we start going wide around the lake in the boat and for some reason this bull stands up and starts wandering towards the direction were I was gonna off load. I hit the shore and get about 50 yards from the boat and see him still wandering. I sneak in about as close as I dare with how thick everything his. I look back at my buddy and tell him to cow call. Bull instantly starts raking a tree and grunting

One more cow call and here he comes thru the brush. For this hunt all I wanted was a grunting waddling bull to turn and give me that big ol eye as he is going by. This bull made that mistake at about 15 yards and I hit him high lungs

First arrow looked like money we even rewatched the video. He went about 150 yards and bedded down. I snuck back out to him and hit him 2 more times. I brought 4 arrows and would use them all if needed. First arrow was a total pass thru second arrow buried all the way in I couldn’t recover it till I peeled the ribs off. And the third one had about an inch sticking out. Hard quartering away I was happy with the penetration considering I hand sharpened the sevrs myself.IMG_8959.jpegIMG_8968.jpegIMG_8956.jpeg
