Maybe I just spent too much time hunting alone last week. As I was exploring new country and looking for several different species in a broad open unit, my mind really started to wander as well. Anyhow, I started to imagine how awesome it would be to have OnX Maps to sponsor a "Wilderness Pro Huntoff". If several public land-media sponsored hunters collaborated to hunt one specific unit one year, I am imagining a pretty amazing yard stick to compare hunting styles and approaches. I often sit and watch Randy Newberg, Solo hunters, Meateater, and Born and Raised (all already sponsored by OnX Maps). How cool would it be to watch and see footage of these athletes hunting the largest Wilderness area in the lower 48 States in one year?

No one would have to draw any tags. Just go over the counter and purchase 2 bull elk tags, 2 buck deer tags, 2 bear tags, 2 lion tags and 5 wolf tags.

It would truly be amazing to see who goes in with llamas, horseback, bush plane, solo, river raft, jet boat or helicopter and who fairs the best.

This might seem like an extreme day dream but it would be pretty amazing to see the all-stars out in the wildest wilderness unit in the lower 48 that has been waiting to be exploited.

What do you guys think? 2019?2020? Or is this too far fetched?

Have you seen the video of Randy crossing the creek and nearly falling down that used to be in the intro of every episode? I think it corresponded to the narrator saying something to the affect of "we're not athletes" or something like that.

I'm not sure any of these guys would consider themselves athletes. ;)

Poor choice of words on my part... change Athlete to "Conservationists" :D

I was also thinking that one valuable backcountry feature that OnX maps could add to their mapping software would be emergency/first aid stations that are marked on back country trails. Along the trail on several of my backcountry hikes there are locations where saddle boxes and plastic boxes have been left for the purpose of aiding those who are in emergency situations. Being 8 miles in and coming across one of those along a trail could really save a life.

I have heard of horseback riders with spooked horses that they have never been able to recover in the backcountry. Those situations sure do change thing pretty quick. A poncho, a space blanket, needles and thread, 8 ounce bottle of water. Those things sure do go a long ways when you are in a dire situation. Having an app that can lead you to a box that you can either deposit or withdraw community life saving devices might be pretty cool.

One of the reason I like the shows you listed is that they tend to stay away from those kind of gimmicks. Give the bone collectors or Wildgame innovation guys a call although you may have to change things up a bit. Instead of public it would need to be a private ranch were guides have done all the work and you pay a "trophy fee" for how many inches of antler your deer has.

You guys gotta lighten up a little. Not even close to one of the 10 or even 50 dumbest posts this year.
