Wow! Work forced us to move our WY hunt back to the 2nd week of the season, but we r glad we did! We left sat but the blizzard & road closures forced us to detour 4 hrs south. When we arrived at town sunday...only the highway was open. All the county roads hadn't been plowed & had 2-4 ft snow drifts w lotsa mud underneath ! The upside was the blizzard sent all the hunters fleeing & we had most of our hunting area to ourselves. Mule deer hunting was slow for the 1st couple days w 20" of snow. But we did find some antelope to work with as the snow receded more each day. They were in very large herds. The 2nd day we found this guy solo. We made a perfect stalk & I missed a 150yd shot, but put him down at 320 yds. My 2nd biggest goat !http://onyourownadventures.com/hunt...ent.php?attachmentid=37762&stc=1&d=1381875087
While in town, we met a rancher who was more than happy to let us come shoot some whitetails w OTC doe tags.http://onyourownadventures.com/hunt...ent.php?attachmentid=37764&stc=1&d=1381875521
Finally on wed we could access the backcountry to chase some mule deer. The deer were very active after the storm & seemed to be lingering in the feeding areas longer in the morning. Thursday morning we spotted 5 muley bucks just leaving a private pasture to head up into the breaks. My partner, who didn't have a buck tag, help track the bucks as I navigated closer. I thought that they were in the bottom of a canyon when they suddenly spotted me & popped out on top the other side of the canyon. I had @ 5 seconds to find this guy in the scope at 250 yds & then there was 4 !
Finally the last 2 days we had 1 buck antelope tag to fill, since my partner was holding out all week for a better one. We found this guy guarding a herd of 26 does. The wind & terrain was good & we crept into 300 yds but couldn't get any closer. The buck came to 200 yds to check a doe, but just as my partner was coming down on the trigger, he turned, walked straight away & laid down at 330 yds. So we waited & waited & waited. At least the sun was out & it was warmer. After an hr, a small buck got too close to a doe & the herd buck got up & came over to protect his doe. My partner missed the 1st shot at 250 yds. The whole herd ran 100 yds to our left. The big buck stopped right behind a doe ! Finally the doe stepped forward & my buddy shot again at 200 yds. He missed again ! I yelled reload as the buck stopped again after trotting 20 yds further. Then just as my buddy was ready to shot again..the buck got all wobbly legged and u know the rest ! That was one of the funnest stalks that Ive done & it's a really cool buck we call "Goofy" cause his left horn tips down more & is very gnarly!

Almost like an African safari, taking multiple species and multiple animals in a short span of time. Nice adventure!!

The 1st goat is actually only 15" long. Alittle fancy camera work helps. :D
