My WSM is a custom barreled South Carolina Win 70. The barrel is a 26" 10 twist. I use H4350 with this load in Norma brass and a Fed 210M primer.

I've been very successful with heavy bullets in a 300 WSM.

Too heavy for a WSM to push at speeds required for expansion past 400 , and/or limited powder capacity is handicapping the 200gr, not enough twist, etc, etc.
WSM is the red headed step child I guess..

I'm hoping this new rifle will shoot 181 Hammers, but I'm keeping my options open

Sounds like BS from like you said, experts. Give a look at the Hammer 163 grain HHT. mtmuley

Steve at Hammer pointed me towards the 166 w/ superformance.( I provided him with my available powders on hand,twist,etc) I ordered the181s and the 166s because I'm loading four different rifles in 300wsm...

The tipped bullets are out. Might be worth a look. Or I would look at the 166. But, if you are comfortable with it, shooters are using light for caliber with great success. mtmuley

I saw over at LRH guys were having to install tips after receiving bullets. Are all the new bullets arriving not assembled or only certain caliber? Why not wait a bit longer to release them until they can get a machine to do that? I just can’t justify paying more for a new bullet that doesn’t come assembled.

Aight, I won a beautiful browning xbolt a few yrs ago from gohunt and I chose the 28 Nosler. Quite a round and quite a gun. I’m more of an archery hunter but I have been fortunate enough to take a couple of cows and a great lope buck.
I shot the first cow with a Nosler trophy grade 175 and it was quite an angled away shot. Cow ram about 30 yds and bedded, she promptly expired and upon a good search for the bullet there’s was nothing left of her heart and lower lungs.
Definitely digging this round and this gun.

My Alaska Range Dall Sheep Ram was taken with Nosler 140 Grain AccuBonds out of a 280 Ackley Improved at 290 yards shooting uphill at the same angle as the slope behind me. Snuck up the alders and willows and crawled up the rocks to verify he was legal and laid out and got him.

Another whitetail doe claimed by 150gr SPS Blem E-tips in my .30-06. 120 yards and she went straight down. Head stayed up and bobbed for about 10 seconds and then she was still.


Entrance side, basically can’t see it.

Exit side, only a rib hit and really no meat lost. Heart was totally intact but lungs were shredded.

So anyone that has elk hunted with me knows my policy of shooting elk in favorable places to take care of them, and am quick to tell someone to "hit him again". This year it happened to me, shot this bull first shot he didn't even flinch second I know it hit solid but he keep looking around so after third he turned and forth dropped him. All 4 impacts were solid sounding at 400 yards with 200 gr accubonds going 3150fps. 3 lungs (1 little back but was bubbling) 4th was heart and that was only shot not recovered. These 3 were all offside hide. I have always swore that these 30 cal 200gr accubonds are the best all-around hunting bullet ever made.
