So my father has been taking my two nephews out shooting because NYS youth season was this last weekend. The oldest nephew is 14 and can partake in it this year! So mornings dad would take him out on the farm and evenings up to his camp. Saturday night they were up to camp when at 6:05 this nice buck stepped out and started feeding 100-120 yards in front of him. Needless to say practice payed off with a beautiful first buck!

Had a doctors appointment on Friday so I took the whole day off. Sat morning sit on a field edge and got there well before daylight. Heard some deer sneak through the brush 40-50 yards to my NW just out of site before legal shooting time. About an hour after legal shooting time I looked behind me and could see two flatheads feeding about 100 yards behind me. I prayed they would come my way and take the runway back into thick cover 10 yards from me but they didn’t. Walking out I bumped two bedding deer which ran my buddies way. They stayed about 80 yards out in front of him and then crossed the road where I saw them while getting my gear off at the truck.

That evening was rather slow with me being the only person to see one small fawn out of three of us hunting.

Did not hunt all day Saturday or Sunday morning due to bad wind direction.

Last night was a beautiful sit in my hay bale hunt saw two flatheads just before dark but didn’t want to shoot a fawn so I let them both pass seeing I couldn’t tell their size.

Been putting in the stand time this year and seeing plenty of animals, just not the one!




A new stand that we will be adding to our arsenal of stands for next season

Big 9 that my cousin got near my father property up in the mountains. Shot it with a muzzleloader across a beaver pond.200+ lb broozer buck!


Former Co-worker got this the other night on his lease in St Lawrence County NY. Starting to see some really good buck hitting the ground and some really good movements in the stand!




Bucks are laying in the sign more and more and the rut up here is upon us! Good luck everyone! I will keep you posted if anything changes!

I was daydreaming about sitting in a blind like that this weekend. Ah well, our pile of logs is cheaper!

A very large tractor with a bucket! the local farmer is going to do it for us after deer season is over or in the spring.

Nice! I am wanting to build a few and the biggest thing I am pondering is how to get the blind on the platform.

If I didn't have the option of the local farmer I would take it apart in pieces with a sawsall, put the platform up where I wanted it, attach the base to the platform. then stand the walls and put the roof back on. Setting it up there with the tractor sounds like less work though!

Last weekend hunting pics... couple small bucks which I let go, and did see some new fresh sign. It’s getting close now! Hopefully will have a nice shooter to post pics of on here shortly!

So I sat all day yesterday in 28 degree temps, winds SW at 0-5 mph. I hadn’t been in the stand 20













my buddy scored this morning on this fine NY buck which dressed out at 183. This bruiser broker off a brow time fighting but my buddy made the heart shot on him he flipped over backwards and hit a rock breaking off the end of one of his main beams.



So now I’m back in the stand for a 11-5 sit to try my luck at taking one of these ghosts

Buddy of mine got this 225 lb dressed 10 point monster tonight in northern NY!
