North Dakota

I'm not sure ND has a draw odds page like most states. I downloaded some deer draw odds before the 2011 draw that I can email to you if that's what you are looking for. PM me if you want em

If I remember right ther draw odds are only posted when the applications come out. I do know they post them. You may have to wait until April or so. NR odds fall into the category of not good.

1 % of the tags go to NR. odds are very low if you are trying for mule deer. They do have a NR landowner tag if you want to buy a ranch.

The attached file is what I can provide. It will allow to calculate the odds for every unit and deer type we have available. The antlered deer types are A, C, & E. The antlerless deer types are B, D, & F. Nonresidents are allowed 1% of the total available. For instance Unit 1, Deer Type A had 900 available. 9 of these go to nonresidents. The “NR” column shows the number of nonresidents that applied this year. We had 22 apply in unit 1 so your chances would be about 41%.
Bear in mind the number of deer tags available, and the number of people that apply are different every year. These numbers just show what we had in 2011.
Applying in a party is fairly easy. When you go online to purchase your application, usually they become available mid-May, when you get to the spot where you enter your name and mailing address, at the bottom of the screen is a box saying, “add a party member”. You just need to click that box and follow the instructions on the screen.

Hey fellas, reviving an old thread here. In the spreadsheet posted by MNHunter, what does the "-21" mean in the nonresident category? Does that mean that 21 guys applied for 9 applications?

Yes, that is correct.

To Damn COLD to hunt here. I only used My tag opening half day. Can some one explain why they have the opener at noon on Friday too? Makes no sense. To much private land . If You can find a place open to public ,Theres to many people. I give credit to Montana for there Block Management program.....BOB!

Naturebob. I'm from Minot and I disagree with everything you said. It is just as cold as eastern MT, MN and at times SD.
Why they structured the season opener like that, I have no idea.
There is a whole host of public land called the National Grasslands out west, not to mention PLOTS and other public lands, like Darling and Audubon's public land. I will also say false on to many people. You're telling me that out of maybe 115 buck tags IF that for unit 4B you're going to see a ton of people? HA!
Maybe you should get out of the truck and burn some rubber with your feet, but to each there own. Stay in the truck, it won't bother me.

On the contrary, MT blows every state out of the water for their liberal public lands, tags and seasons.
There is no comparison between ND and MT, but in January, Beulah holds a big buck contest and most years it takes a 200+ to win it. The badlands hold some incredible trophies.

Good day sir.

I know the Badlands has Great deer and the Grass lands too. How many years to get drawn? And I do get out and walk. More than Most people. Why did You assume I didn't? I am from Arizona. Probly walked More in My hunting career than 99% of the Folks up here. And I am 57 and still do it. Opening day I hiked way in and had 2 nimrods drive thru an area that had no road . I am just used to going hunting where Your on Nat. Forrest ,State or BLM. Never had to ask permission.I have found the Country folks to be great and kind people until it comes to deer hunting. Its simple Most here don't like the outta towners here working in the oil, and You know its true. From now on I will only put in for the public areas. If don't get drawn I go to 2-3 other States plus Mexico in January Anyway...Fighting to find a place to hunt aint worth It. Happy hunting.......BOB

The ND draw odds are published every year in the February edition of the ND Outdoors Magazine. Here is a link to those magazines. http://gf.nd.gov/publications/north-dakota-outdoors-archive

As far as I know, it is mostly just odds for residents. Just figure non-resident odds are much worse...

Also, I believe that 1/2% of the tags for non-residents can go to outfitters. ND is pathetic with their non-resident allocation and I'd be very, very surprised if the tags given to non-residents ever changes.

Also, I'm with Slick and could not disagree with naturebob more. My 2 biggest whitetails (around 150") have both come off of public land. Not National Forest land either. I've also shot a couple in the 120-130" range on public and unposted private land. Also about a 155" muley on public. I don't doubt that you walk a lot and the best advice I could give to you is to draw a 50 mile radius around Minot and hunt outside of that circle. Had I known you had a tag this year I could have at least tried to point you in the right direction. With tomorrow being the last day though that makes it a little tough......

Slick and VDO84, thanks for Your advice. I'm sure if I had time here I could make it work, Went out a few times scouting, problem is a lot of farmers don't post the land till right before the hunt, so it did no good to scout. It gets frustrating when You don't know where to go and were use to being able to hunt where You wanted in AZ. and New Mexico.. Places I did find in the little time I spent out had lottsa Hunters. Easy for You guys ,You know where to go. I had a 3a2 tag ,and did put in for the refuge first but didn't get it. I did Harvest a Average Muley in Montana last week. I will post story and pics here soon. Thanks again and I don't mean to be knocking Your State. Its mine too now that I have lived here almost 3 years with Wife and older kids ,Bought a place here and wife likes it too. Just a different way of Hunting for Me ,and tough for an old desert rat to get used to the cold. I'm here till 62 ,less than 5 years so I better get used to it......BOB!
