Non-political Make ICE hate make sense to me. Can it be civil?

And that bolded part is what should be the mandatory minimum for anyone running for president. Unfortunately, we as a country have strayed very far away from that criterion.
Citizens United vs. FEC has made it impossible for decent human beings to compete for any major office these days.

Yep. Immigration programs needs updated.
As well as the Visa program. The dairy industries problem is the work is not seasonal, but most of the foreign workers just want to work here. They don't want to immigrate here. This was mentioned in the article......

"One possible thing that could help is allowing year-round dairy workers to have access to the seasonal H-2A visa program."

There's no should or shouldn't. You can't save someone from drowning by drowning yourself. Look at the tax taken from your paycheck. Look at how much credit card debt people carry.

We don't need immigrants nor can we afford them. We can't afford so-called asylum seekers. We can't even afford foreign aid.

Consider this. An illegal can make $20+ an hour picking watermelons. Why? Because our native labor is tied up by government programs. The adults can get an acceptable quality of life, by their standards, off welfare. The teens are sitting at school doing little to nothing for years longer than necessary. 'migos aren't doing things we cannot, they're just doing what we don't because our excessive taxes fund wasteful programs which prevent us.

The immigration problem is wholly artificial. Opposition to deportation is from ignorance and greed.

I worked on dairies in high school and after. It was hard work and great work experience. It was also great incentive to get a college education.

Respectfully, I must sympathize with you ... as clearly circumstances burdened you with a lemon of life. If I were you, move to another country might be the solution.

On the other hand, IMO this nation has enough wealth to do darn near anything anyone can dream of, but certainly to help downtrodden poor countries and peoples.
The taxation structure is in dire need of revision. Public education most places is okay, but always warrants improvement and changes to keep up with technology of the world.
Federal, state, and local governmental programs and organizations need reform to be more efficient, void of "waste, fraud, and abuse", and better at providing citizen safety, care, and maintenance of infrastructure. However, those programs and organizations are critical to our needs and necessarily are funded by taxes.

I assert that most working folks have the financial ability to pay a fair share of taxes to keep things operating for the good of all. Those who have been burdened by the lemon of life are best treated with uplift and care ... by the rest of us who have won the lottery of life by being born in the USA and being able to thrive and get ahead through education, hard work, managing money, and also sharing as volunteers and good citizens.

Have not read all the replies, but one factor I don't see in the OP is the value immigration has to our economic interests in the US.

It's huge, and absolutely necessary--every demographer and economist would agree.

Why?

The US Birth rate will fall below death rate in just a few years. We went through most of our lives with the huge flush of baby boomers contributing to our economy. Most of them will be retired or dead in just a few years. To maintain our economy, we need more babies born. Child bearing age people is MUCH lower than average over past years and we also know they do not have the same outlook on numbers of children they want to have as average in the past. Many want none--not something common in the past.

People are needed to fill jobs, and not just grow but maintain our economy. We are running out of people.

Basic government costs--policing, transportation and everything they do for us--need people paying taxes to fund.

Suddenly many less people and those expenses still have to be paid. Guess how that occurs? HIGHER TAXES FOR US ALL.

So we need--badly need--immigrants.

Trump and MAGA fans--as seen in other threads--have a completely different take--that immigrants are the problem, not the solution.

Anti-immigration is anti american economy and pro higher taxes.
Sounds like a massive Ponzi scheme.

I grew up milking cows as a teenager before the explosion of dairy farm size. The size of the dairies now require a labor force size that’s hard to find.

Same views expressed by many...but stray far from reality.

Maybe this is a source you'd take to heart?

I will give another example of how the popular opinion of some on an immigration issue runs counter to reality.

We have a state run health insurance program here that helps people get insurance. It had been available to all ...including immigrants.

Republicans in our legislature forced that provision out during the last legislature.

Makes sense to many...why should we extend that program to immigrants who arent yet US citizens? It costs us all money to do so!

Well its not that simple. Most medical providers are non-profits, some work under strong religion influenced requirements to extend care...things that legally and morally do not allow them to refuse medical care to people needing it.

So you have people whose care used to be mostly paid by insurance who cant get insurance anymore. Those people still need medical care...but they won't seek it until their problem is dire.

When its much more expensive to treat.

And the provider has to treat...and has to do so without payment.

Those costs arent just swallowed by providers...the providers have to raise their costs for others to cover it.

Insurance costs for all go up.

Theres another issue...particularly affecting rural providers in non-wealthy areas. Their patients cant absorb the higher costs that need to be passed onto to them. Coupled with cuts to medicaid enacted under Trump, many rural providers already barely staying alive are talking about closing down.

Now this is here, in MN. We have far FEWER immigrants than most all western and Southern border states.

But not unlimited immigration biden let in more illegals then any president in the 20 years before him. Why don't you look at the percentage of those that actual went into the fields you claim we need workers for.the percentage that actually go into those areas of work is no where close to what biden administration let in the country.......
