As expected,

I drew nothing in the special hunts again. No Tule elk, no antelope and no bighorn sheep. But at least I got another point in each one.

Me and a few thousand others since California started a point system last year.

When I lived in northern CA I hunted northeast of Coos Bay, OR for tule elk. In the mid-1980's licenses were easy to buy.

Very good mulies are found in the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness of Alpine County, CA. But a 7 mile hike at 8500 feet elevation can make for burning lungs and spots before your eyes!

Nut - for me, that means I get to focus on my New Mexico mule deer hunt!

Jack - I didn't know that tule elk were ever in Oregon, or for that matter, much north of Sacramento. Rocky Mountain and Roosevelt, maybe.

We are in on the ground floor on this points thing, in a couple of years, we'll be waking Calif. elk, count on it.

I won't be a resident of California long enough to put those points to use so I didn't even apply for any special hunts here. Better luck next year guys!!
