No tax on overtime question

The older I get the more I understand why all the older guys hated getting called in. Losing a nights sleep just makes a guy feel like a bag of shit for 2 days. :ROFLMAO:
100%. I typically push through for 24hrs. Then it catches up to me and I am whooped for 4 days. Getting older stinks. This morning I volunteered to open a door at 4am. That meant I was out of bed at 3am or without the recent time change 2am. Its now 8:30 and I am on my 4th cup of coffee and everyone stumbled in at 7am complaining about the time change. lol. Really!

Where I work it is either 4 hours early or 4 hours over. So on day shift I either start at 3am or get off at 7pm. I let the young guys have the early starts. They are like man you get another 10% for starting before 5am and I am like get it kid its all yours my days of getting up at 130am are over.

And man I wish comp time was an option and OT was optional but neither are.

I know it’s really not a “good” thing to be getting a tax refund, but dang does it feel nice when you’re mentally prepared to cut a check…

Got roughly $4k more back this year than in previous years. Apples to apples from the last several years would've been $6k more, but my step son is old enough now that we dont get a tax credit for him for 2025 like we did in years past.
My effective tax rate went up 1%. Less income for us this year, but taxes didn't fall enough to make up for it. Lots of moving pieces but pretty much what I expected. Not everyone is a winner.

Spending your refund on anything fun or just the practical stuff?

Thats pretty much the way everything works isnt it? Like I said if I got extra, thats great. If I didn’t I still have to get up tomorrow morning and go to work doesn't change a whole lot. But I'm not going to complain if the chips fall my way a little.

We spend our tax return on the house every year. So this just means I'll likely be able to finish the remaining 10 or so windows in the house instead of doing maybe 1/2 or 2/3 of them like I had in mind. But it does free up the budget for a little more fun stuff I guess moving forward or more home renovations.

No judgement. Like I say, everyone cashes the check. I just like to ask to see the general thought process of varying people. The national debt increased by about $13,000 per household last year. So I think we all lost to varying degrees.

Windows and home renos are zero fun IMO. More of an investment, but worth it. Hope you find some good stuff.
