Newest US Senate Land Sale Amendment

LOOKS LIKE there is a third revision of Lee's bill. It's horrendous no exclusion of National Forests. We have roughly 640 million acres of Public Land. Mandatory Sale of 0.25 to 0.50 percent is a huge amount of land. I've been calling Senators, leaving messages. Don't stop everybody. This is a steal of American Heritage. One percent of Public Land is 6+ million acres. A quarter of that is approx. 1 1/2 millions acres. I don't think my math is faulty.

Not trying to put to thick of a tinfoil hat on here but politics are politics and politicians are politicians.

Was it allowed to go to a vote with Sheehy and the other western Rs knowing they didn't have enough but this way they can save face with their constituents that called in and their counterpart Rs?

I hope not and just hope this gets shot down in the senate and we can move on to the next fight.

This whole piece of legislation is so mind boggling. How could any member of congress vote for this in good faith with all the bullshit it is wrapped in.
Lower royalty rates on oil, gas and coal extracted from public land? That belongs to we the people. They get it by paying for it and still make a ton of money.
Use affordable housing language as a smoke screen to sell off public land? This is a local government issue which can be solved by proper planning and zoning. Selling off public land will not solve the problem. There are a tone of vacant private parcels way more suitable for this with existing infrastructure.
Oh wait, give 5% of the proceeds of the sale to local government so they can only use it to support infrastructure (to the public land sold?) as determined by the Secretary. Genius. He found a way to earmark 5% of the proceed from the land sale to run infrastructure to the remote piece of public land one of his real estate donors purchases to build a resort on (amenity).
10% for recreational amenities of to cover deferred maintenance on public land? Horseshit. How about not cutting royalties and direct those dollars to deferred maintenance.
All of this is garbage. It is hurting my eyes to read it. If this is a reflection of the intelligence of Mike Lee, I have no idea how he passed law school or got elected.

Just got a text that Lee's unpopularity is about to bite him in the ass. I'm not sure how this happens, procedurally, but I've been told to stand by. It seems Thune told Lee he wasn't going to win when the amendment came from the MT/ID delegation, so Thune offered to take it out and let Lee save face. If so, that's a victory, but I wanted a show of hands.

If so, Lee and anyone else who decided to FA, needs to FO, that there are serious consequences. He's likely safe in Utah, just how it is. But, as has been mentioned on this thread, he did something nobody has been able to do - take a topic and make it American and disregard any R/D bullshit.

Rs currently willing to vote in favor of removal - Daines, Sheehy, Crapo, Risch, Hawley, Marshall, Schmidt, Tillis, Husted, Moreno, McCormick, Britt, and even more are leaning that way.

From what I understand, Lee has one option. I've been told what it is, but I don't completely understand. If he uses that option, it's almost the nuclear option for him.

I know that many will want to credit Rs for bucking a Chairman, within their party. And we should. Yet, one guy who has committed every part of his body towards this effort since it first was dropped by Lee on June 11th has been Senator Martin Heinrich (D-NM). I had him on a podcast recently, and I've told all of you that he is one of the few elk hunters in Congress. Public land hunting is his identity and what he lives for. He and his staff are always so helpful. I hope he gets the credit he deserves.

Stand by for more....

I've made plenty of calls to Tillis' office and not gotten any indication he cared about this issue, I would be elated to be proven wrong. His internals must be rough for next year.

Holly cow!!! My 5 emails and 3 phones calls to Roger Marshall helped!!! Im glad to see a Kansas Senator will vote for public lands.

Word is that Lee is on the phone with President Trump. Unless the POTUS backs him, this is dead.

Other Rs to add to the list - Hagerty, Budd, McConnell, Blackburn, Cotton, Murkowski. That is 18 of the 53 Rs, plus every D. That is a 65/35 split, maybe even worse. That means there is no procedural process for this to stay in the bill, under any method, barring Lee convincing POTUS to call in some chips and flip some who are currently opposing.

Thanks for acknowledging Martin Heinrich, I live in NM and have been emailing him a lot. He is standing strong for our Public Land. This issue is way bigger than D versus R, we need to stand together to save our Public Land from destruction. New Mexico has incredibly beautiful Public Lands. The 3rd iteration of Lee's amendment is horrible. Thanks SO much for keeping us up to date. I'm watching the Senate floor live now. Unofficial tally 46 Y, 50 N.

This is drama folks. That's a long list of R's - and both from Ohio?! Am I seeing straight? I thought Husted might turn, but Moreno?! Tillis too, he has a long list of grievances with the bill.

I'm hoping this vote will be the first sign of true R opposition to BBB and Trump...not just saying, but doing. Am watching Senate floor live right now.

We can't have a 50 50 tie, then Vance puts it over. We need 49 Y 51 N to have what we need, I believe.
