Newest US Senate Land Sale Amendment

Yes, keep calling Thune's office. I doubt he'd override a Parliamentarian, but let's not give him any opportunity to do so.
He has been pretty emphatic that he won't. It opens up a Pandora's Box that he would rather leave closed. That said, I would rather see the Parliamentarian leave it in. I want Lee to be forced to withdraw it. Thune could have told Lee to drop it and either he hasn't or was told to buzz-off. The Boss-man wants this bill passed. I want to see members of Congress back their words with actions and do their job.

Does this revision from Lee go back to the Parliamentarian? And when?
The draft was supposedly sent to the Parliamentarian today. We should see a decision in the next couple of days.

My calls and emails to my legislators over the last few days have focused on encouraging them to privately contact Sen. Lee to tell him to back off the public land sale amendments, and revisit the subject at a more appropriate time than 11th hour budget reconciliation.

I get that FLTFA could be revisited to better serve stakeholders, and there are some changes I bet a lot of them could agree on. My concern is that all the current hubbub might make it difficult to have those kind of constructive discussions which still need to be had at some point - these issues are not going away.

Our kids are next in line to fight this. Never too young to talk about it. mtmuley
Yep! My 7 year old heard me make my usual handful of calls the other day, and when I was done he asked who I called and what it was about.
He’s also pretty intelligent on western hunting and wildlife and conservation already, so after I told him, he simply said “why would anyone want to take that away from all the other hunters!?”
Indeed, son, indeed.

Calls made and emails sent today. After reading what Randy has been doing for this, and watching the Fresh Tracks Weekly videos, I think we are witnessing a present day conservation hero that will go down in history whether he will acknowledge it or not. @Big Fin I salute your efforts!

Great point. Not going to lie, my kid is more the type to be most comfortable camping within short driving distance of a chai latte establishment, but we went on a nice 8mi hike on Monday and I told her to enjoy it if only for the freedom she has to do it. For one, eventually you get old and can't do them. And two, because people are trying to take away that land to make money off the trees and the rocks and the wildlife. Regardless of what they promise in return, the payoff benefits them and once it's gone it's gone. Enjoy what we have. A lot of countries don't have it anymore and envy us for it.

Another round of voicemails to my senators thanking them and asking them to continue opposing it.

Left a message and a detailed email to Senator Thune.

I will keep at it as long as needed. I would rather be making plans for the fall but this takes priority.

I think best case is for the Parlementarian to pull it now- no guarantee that Lee is forced to withdraw. Once it gets to the 11th hour voting and DT starts picking up the phone and applying pressure, all bets are off.

For those coming up on an election year (Daines being one that we need to oppose), that scenario puts them between a rock and a hard place.

Hey All, My brain just broke listening to this and responding with a big thumbs down. Listen, give a thumbs down, and then post a comment. Charlie Kirk? Hmmmmm… Lee made my skin crawl.

Looks like NC hunters finally made a big enough stink to make Budd release a statement, milquetoast and noncommittal as it is. Already seeing people in the local hunting/fishing groups planning to light him up for not being more strongly opposed. Screenshot_20250625_214120_Facebook.jpg

I was surprised how good this was. The more we can reach into avenues we usually don’t frequent to share our message the better. This was watched by over 6.64 million viewers. We must inform the uninformed. Benji, seems like a solid dude. “Teddy is rolling over in his grave”

I agree. The parliamentarian is letting a bunch of these guys off the hook easy. I would like to see them give Lee the public beatdown he deserves. If they won’t than we have that knowledge for midterms. Talk is cheap

Well spoken. Nice that it is reaching a larger audience!

Exactly my point. My view is the parliamentarian still says it's BS, but I want to stay. You force Lee to pull it and eat it, you get to enjoy a "victory" and it buys more time, as in years. If it goes to a vote, you tell those who say they are listening to put up or shut up. Trump doesn't give a shit about these BLM lands. He wants the bigger win. Yes, all bets are off at that point. But the average American voter has to understand that the majority of the republican party would gladly and gleefully sell these lands for the $$$.

Simple rule of politics, if you have to do this fight again, it will get harder to get the same level of enthusiasm.

I need to take a shower after watching that.

Disliked and commented. Thanks for the heads up.

I think we need to be careful with the “not one single acre!” proclamations. It’s a useful message for rallying the base, but also can be used by the other side to paint us as extreme and unreasonable. The better message, IMO, is that federal law already exists that provides for the transfer of federal lands for things like housing. So Lee’s amendment is unnecessary. Furthermore, his legislation, as written, provides massive loopholes and ambiguities that would allow land to be sold off for almost any purpose - not just housing as he claims.

So many lies in that video. Anyone else pick up on how he said “would allow for” the sale vs. saying the truth that it “mandates” the sale?

Listening to Lee makes me want to throw up, but he did seize on the “not one single acre” position. We don’t need to give him any red meat to use against us.

I really see your intent, but I also ask where is your line? At this point, my stance is not one single acre. As a scientist I am always open, but will need to see the data to consider it.
