Newest US Senate Land Sale Amendment

I don’t live in Utah, and I know this is a lot of pressure, but everyone uniting against him in a primary would send a BIG BEAUTIFUL MESSAGE to all elected officials to stay away from this issue. It must be made clear now that people won’t vote for him. If you don’t cut out the dormant tumor, it will become aggressive again someday.
I'm not so sure this will happen. The people of Utah have long known on his stance regarding public lands. He still gets voted in because its not a high priority for the major of people in Utah apparently. I mean it wasn't even close.

I see what you’re saying, but that’s only if you look at the percentages. Look at the number of actual votes. According to the Utah Voter I formation site,
As of June 17, 2025, “there are
1,022,363 total registered Republican voters in Utah, with 932,228 considered active voters.“ It looks like a boost in turnout out and flipped voters in a primary could give him the 🥾!

He certainly seems willing to stake his career on selling public lands, it’s our jobs as Utahn’s to make sure he just did at this point. He really did piss of a ton of people that are VERY conservative this time in the state. Like I’ve seen people on my Facebook feed that absolutely are his voters posting about this. I actually very much feel like if the right person primaries him he is actually beatable because of this.
If the good voters of Utah could primary Mike Lee it would end the public land sell off/ transfer for our lifetimes.

Just got confirmation from members of the Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee that indeed, the Parliamentarian did rule that Lee's provisions to sell lands are considered in violation of the Byrd Rule.

So, that effectively kills the existing language. There are three other options Lee has:

1. Convince VP Vance, as presiding officer of the Senate, to overrule the Parliamentarian.

2. Convince Senator Thune, as Senate Majority Leader, to overrule the Parliamentarian (most likely route Lee will take).

3. Lee introduces new language that would require the Parliamentarian to rule again on his new language (but he is running out of time if they want to get a second ruling from the Parliamentarian.

So, the call to action this morning is this - Contact Senator Thune's office and ask him to respect the decision of the Parliamentarian and keep Senator Lee's land sale language out of the bill.

Keep the pressure on Sheehy and Daines. Their “Montana exemption” is arguably more abhorrent than what Lee is pulling.

There is zero chance that happened without their involvement.
Yes, keep pressure on Daines and Sheehy.

There is 100% chance that Lee did this on his own. I have spoke to Democratic Senators on the Committee who have told me such, as have lobbyists who normally operate on the Democratic side. They have no reason to make this up. And because Lee operates as he does, he doesn't have any friends in the Senate, on either side.

I’m not buying that.

Didn’t Daines just meet with Lee back on June 5th to discuss? And this did not come up in that conversation?

Daines and Sheehy both released similar statements: they are “against” this, but are glad to see Montana exempted. Pretty tepid for guys who just had something like this done on their behalf and without their knowledge.

Surprisingly, I do agree with Treesnark's perspective. Although it's really a moot point, but a typical political ploy on the part of Montana's Senators. The important point is to apply the pressure as Big Fin so astutely suggests to maintain the Parliamentarian decision.

Then don't buy it. Makes no difference to me.

Yes, Daines did meet with Lee. They couldn't come to an agreement on concise limited language. Lee threw his sucker in the dirt and stomped off. Lee then came back with this proposal on June 11th, hoping to isolate Daines and Sheehy. It backfired.

Yes, those statements were "tepid." Such is the way the Senate operates in the public facing postures. Behind the scenes, things get more tense.

Carry on. We've to much bigger issues to tackle this week.

Emailed Thune again and let him know how conservatives back in his home state feel about all this.

Done.

Everybody needs to stay on point until this thing is completely dead.

No reason to make enemies out of friends. I’ve never been more encouraged and hopeful for public lands having a place in the GOP than now. Truly awesone developments. Message left for Thune.
