Newest US Senate Land Sale Amendment

Call both my Indiana senators. Left a message for Banks. Spoke with a staffer for Young. Said he will form an opinion in the coming week. I think they are experiencing high call volume on this.

Just got confirmation from members of the Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee that indeed, the Parliamentarian did rule that Lee's provisions to sell lands are considered in violation of the Byrd Rule.

So, that effectively kills the existing language. There are three other options Lee has:

1. Convince VP Vance, as presiding officer of the Senate, to overrule the Parliamentarian.

2. Convince Senator Thune, as Senate Majority Leader, to overrule the Parliamentarian (most likely route Lee will take).

3. Lee introduces new language that would require the Parliamentarian to rule again on his new language (but he is running out of time if they want to get a second ruling from the Parliamentarian.

So, the call to action this morning is this - Contact Senator Thune's office and ask him to respect the decision of the Parliamentarian and keep Senator Lee's land sale language out of the bill.

Senator John Thune
United States Senate SD-511
Washington, DC 20510

Agreed, this needs to be universally recognized as a political third rail.
I would have thought the drubbing Jason Chaffetz took left a clear enough message. I will live long enough to see Senator Lee another has been commentator on Fox News.

Trivia question: Who knows the acreage Chaffetz targeted in his 2017 DEFLA bill?

3.3 Million acres.

"According to Lee's post, the updated draft of the bill will only include BLM land that is within five miles of cities."

These properties, the ones within city limits, are probably the most used by a variety of people. One of the last pieces to ever consider disposing. Open space around dense living areas provide an important recreational resource to so many.

Lee, you really have no clue how your constituents spend their free time. Most of us don't go to our private course after work.

I just walked in the door from a several mile horseback ride on BLM land that fits Senator Lee's new criteria.

Open public land near populations is a rare and precious asset.

Senator Lee is so blinded by his ideology that he literally can't fathom how anyone can see things differently than him. He is well endowed with self righteousness.

If you have to use Charlie Kirk to defend your stance, you've already lost the debate.
I broke down and actually set up an account on X to see that post and associated comments. I lasted two minutes. X is a dumpster fire. I'm out. I think I will just continue to rely on the X reposts here.

This group is his only option; a group from Utah.
I had never heard of this group before. But I did some looking and it appears they are out of KS not UT? And one of their core values is that:
" Land Access
Public lands should be open and accessible for multiple uses, including hunting. Further, public land should be responsibly maintained to ensure habitat conditions are improved to support healthy animal populations and dangerous conditions that lead to wildfires are reduced or eliminated"

And it appears they are as excited as all of us that this is getting stripped from the BBB. Were we to quick to assume they were in bed with Lee on this or is it all smoke and mirrors from them?

Though the threat isn't over yet, it's hard not to just step back and marvel at the response. Of course folks quibble about the nuances of management, and those matter, but I can't think of any issue about which the American Public is more unified than the existence of Public Lands.

Pretty cool.
Exactly what I said to Thune today in my e-mail:

"Public lands are just as important as the second amendment, and even more unifying as you've likely seen diverse groups across all political spectrums speak out against this. I honestly can't remember the last time I've seen such unity on any issue in our nation in my 37 year lifetime - please take note and represent the majority of Americans on this issue by not allowing any language from Lee to enter this bill regarding the sale of public lands."

This is what hunter nation is saying now! "It's great news that the sale of public land is going to be COMPLETELY removed from the BBB"

So was the X post Lee posted that he heard Hunter Nation that they (Hunter Nation) told him how much they opposed it and that was the straw that broke this camels back?

Without saying too much, this group is a sham and the guy in that video is a complete clown that I am very familiar with. I’ll let you do your own research. He will certainly take credit for the whole thing I’m sure. He’s very good at that.
