Nebraska “slam” attempt

Snuck into some big woods this afternoon. I usually stay out of them, but with rain last night and 30mph winds right now it’s pretty easy to slip in unnoticed. Threw some old broadheads on a few arrows to shoot at squirrels if nothing else. I really wish I hung this stand in a bigger tree. The wind is making it do a constant circle, glad I brought my harness. 4D5AC20E-9B51-4519-86C2-D1DAF313AF37.jpegDB5BAEE2-EC55-436B-BC84-E97767548B04.jpegE51F75DB-F6C9-45A1-B88E-EB503D6670A9.jpeg

We’re getting to the real stocker hunting now. None of that killing stuff in a few days nonsense, the wheels are starting to come off. 3 arrows launched, 1 lost, 1 shattered, the 3rd the broad head exploded. Yeah baby! This is more like what I’m used to!76591689-8E83-4542-A335-57061DE1D22F.jpeg

I’m back out with my sister in law to find her a cow. Crops up here are all still in and wind is a steady 30 gusts of 50. Ideal for spot and stalk, not ideal for ambush. I blew a stalk on an ok Muley buck this morning. I’m gonna give @Backofbeyond s advice if not being seen a try tomorrow. I doubt it works though.

I came to an old reliable spot. I’m about 3/4 of a mile from the river, this spot always baffled me until I understood thermals. The river behind me is running pretty much straight south and in front of me is a steep bluff that rises maybe 100’. No matter what the weatherman says the wind is gonna do it blows from the NW here every time. Weather app was calling for 10mph SE winds this morning. My puffer says NW. The river is a massive thermal pull. D521E65A-AAC0-42CC-8589-A4A8BCD69556.jpegA005DE74-B4BB-4E11-BEAF-0FE480C7A3FA.jpeg

First trip up looking for a cow for my sister in law. Hoping to get eyes on a few bulls for September. Might venture a little further west to look for a few antelope. Kids needed some essential hunting snacks this morning. View attachment 232013
just starting reading this thread, looking forward to it. Although you jinxed yourself right off the bat by not traveling with the white powder flavor. I fear for the slam. You can trust a pro staffer on this point. LOL.

44 degrees, been raining all day. Just starting to taper off. Not a breath of wind. Took the opportunity of wet leaves and rain to slip way into a timber that is usually hard to get into unnoticed. Seen lots of fresh scrapes on the way in. Feels like a big buck night. 8B653C94-41D1-4599-9B98-EFB2AE0E9C7C.jpeg
