My 2016 General Season Blacktail Hunt....first attempt at filming Blacktails!

I had a good go at it for my general season tag and it ended with a great hunt yesterday. I was still hunting the timber in a good storm....something about that combination really sits well with me. I fully expected to get a chance at a big buck as I was putting in a lot of time this season but it wasn't meant to be. I have another deer tag I want to spend some time on so this guy got to come home with me. I was going to pass on him and even put the video cam away but when he tried to get away my instincts took over. I've killed a pile of little blacktail's but it's still fun and they still feed us well.



I just wish the bucks face was more grey than mine.

An average buck like this one (probably 3 1/2 years old believe it or not) usually yields about 45 pounds of boned out meat but I've killed some where I got 60+ pounds. Very good venison! If I had to choose between them and whitetails I would take whitetail but blacktails and mulies are a wash to me.

They only come out at night or in the rain. I was getting tired of being soaked though! This looks to be the wettest October of all time here in NW Oregon. Gonna make for a long winter....

Nice,I really want to give Oregon a try.Can't believe you'd pick whitetail meat over blacktail though.I noticed on my blacktail huntil on POW is that rain was the best time to hunt them.Fun animals to hunt and a super tough animal to take so congrats

hey Joe just got time to watch the video you made , good stuff, keep at it, for some reason i really enjoy getting to watch hunts filmed in my home state
