I hate it, but it's time for me to give up my happy hunting grounds of the coastal swamps, the tidal rivers, and eastern lo-land deer rich N. Carolina. Family obligations are requiring that I pack my crap and head back to Northern Ohio.

My youngest brother drove up from Orlando yesterday and meet me to pack up a 22' Penske truck. Now 560 miles left to go. He was ragging me for days about my reserving such a truck, and I kept telling him " Doyle, I have more Crap than you know". Today he figured it out !

Packed to the gills and weighing almost as much as a boxcar, the yellow monster grunted it's reluctance at my jammed of the pedal to the floor and North we zoomed as fast as an anemic garden slug.

I pulled off just shy of the I77 Grapevine at the NC/VA state line and he kept going on to make room in Mom's basement B4 I get there tomorrow evening.

So, I guess it's going to be me chasing some Ohio bucks, or Black Bear, up in Canada for the next couple of years.

If there are any OH HT'rs out there, give me a holler. Right now it's either the Mohican, or Salt Fork. I don't think the deer have changed all that much in the last 40 years. This years objective is poundage in the freezer and nothing more!

Welcome back to Ohio.... If you can get in the woods the rut action is crazy right now!

Thanks Randy, You'd think there would be at least one numb nut deer out there that doesn't have a clue, Right?

Dad was classified as 100% VA disabled, due to Old-Timers, (although it is fun at times to watch the both of them forget what they were just talking about, it's serious now) and Mom is 86, she's still spry and argumentative as hell, but with only one brother close by, it's too much. Call in the Marine's.
Me.

I know this may go against some of our HT group, but I'm taking it back to the ground roots of my original deer camp, back in the 70's when all of us in the camp were young, dumb, and pissing more vinegar than smarts.

FLDIR (First Legal Deer In Range)

We had it solder ironed burnt on a oak board above the door into a 1945 era tobacco barn we converted into a "Deer Camp".

I'm down in Southern Ohio. They are putting some monsters on the ground right now (check out the 30+ pointer I posted) I went this evening and saw 10 doe/fawns. I won't get to get back out again until Tuesday. I should call in sick tomorrow :D Welcome back to Ohio. I don't think there has ever been a better time to put a giant whitetail on the ground, if you can find the land to hunt.

Welcome back to the midwest. Like others have said, the rut is crazy right now. At the very least hit up some state land just to watch the show.

When someone asks you "What can I do to help?" and the response is "If you Really want to help, don't try to help us", why is it that is not an acceptable answer ? With 84 yr old Mom and Alzheimer Dad not paying any attention to our pleas it got to where Sister-in-Law was called and begged to come and take them both for an extraordinarily long lunch !! Then, and only then did we get everything unloaded without further bodily injure (to us) from their "Help".
