Funny you mention that. I looked at a flipper house in Gville last year and decided it needed to be burned down. I saw the Zillow ad and got to thinking about how cool a 2nd story deck would be to drink coffee and enjoy the views. IRL it ended up being a POS money pit. Beware of wet basement issues on the north side. City storm runoff management is non-existent to the north of Hwy 13.As others have said cool area, limited services for lots of creature comforts. People are an interesting mix of salt of the earth people and total dirtbag criminals allowed to get away with it because they’re locals. Decent amount of people have moved there in the last few years due to lack of building codes from the county.
Definitely. Even better if you get the Idaho Gasden Flag special plate! "MAGA" and "TRUMP" vanity plates are probably taken already. Remove all Biden/Harris stickers if you have them. Replace them with "Smoke a Pack a day" sticker and you will be OK. If you drive a Subaru, go straight to Gortsema's and get a good 'Murican truck. (Kind of kidding on that one)Colorado isn't in the top 10 of hated plates, but I'd certainly try to get new licence plates before I moved into town...
This brings up a good point. As a new resident trying to land gently, it's important to know, Northern Idaho does not exist. There are two Idahos, Southern and NORTH. IYKYK, and anyone who refers to it as Northern is immediately marked as a non-local. Now, where the dividing line between North and Southern Idaho is, is a matter of some debate. Could be Moscow, some say the Clearwater River is the dividing line (I dare you to tell someone from Peck that because they are on the South Side of the River, that they are a Southern Idahoan...) I'd probably allow as far South as Whitebird Pass, but I've heard people argue North Idaho stretches as far south as Grangeville, and some, drunkenly, have tried to justify calling Riggins the southern terminus of North Idaho. Helpful hints:
The river towns are pronounced "Kam-ee-ai" and "Koosky". Nothing says newb like getting them wrong. Oh - the town on the way to Lewiston is pronounced "LapWAY". It is the Nez Perce Tribal headquarters. A little sensitivity goes a long way.
Mount Idaho is where a lot of the baddies @TheTone talked about live. Just keep driving.
Everyone is related to everyone. Don't trash talk.
Time zone bridge at Riggins is the line for sure. Everything starts to feel weird south of thereThis brings up a good point. None of this is true. If you’re considering moving to Idaho all these things no longer existSpring: Turkeys, bears, rafting, steelhead
Summer: fishing, camping, rafting, huckleberries, scouting, sturgeon
Fall: EVERY huntable critter in Idaho is nearby except antelope.
Winter: steelhead, coyotes
You’ll be close to Clearwater, Lochsa, Selway, Salmon rivers. Epic rafting and great fishing. There’s mountains all around, canyon country, ag, every kind of terrain really. Snowmobiling and atv rides all over. It’s truly got a ton of opportunities.

It was voluntary. Got an opportunity pursue a job I’ve been wanting to do for a bit. I’ll be coming with NM plates. I’m sure that’s not any better though. Were you sentenced there, or did you volunteer? Actually, it's a great central location for outdoor pursuits, but that's about it. This is a town of about ~3500 people, and ~18K people in the ENTIRE County (Idaho County is Idaho's largest geographic county)
But McCall is a little more than an hour away for a cool Mountain Ski/Lake Town. Lewiston is 1.5 hours away (Costco), and Spokane is only 3 hours away.

I was reading about that when looking in to applying for the NR general tags. Doesn’t seem like a very popular take.Idf&g have been trying to kill off all of the bucks in 14 because of cwd. I wouldn't hunt deer in 14 anymore.
This is why is I use the term "Snorth". Panhandlers get tetchy when us Palousers say we are in NORTH Idaho. You can try tacking on the "Central" word, but no one cares. 1L plates get hate whether you go upstate or down. An Idaho County plate is pretty much all access, I think.Time zone bridge at Riggins is the line for sure. Everything starts to feel weird south of there
