Ron Moody, one of Montana's finest conservationists and public land advocates passed away this morning.

I believe all of Montana and the West for that matter owes Ron a debt of gratitude.

Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

This is disheartening. He has done so much that so few realize. Is there a fund setup for his memory?

His son posted this on Facebook:
This is Ben Moody. As we are grieving this day the loss of my father Ron Moody we have already concluded he would never care much for a whole bunch of flowers surrounding him unless they were brought to life by his own hand and mother earth. Instead of this we will be deciding a organization he was passionate about to receive donations in his honor and memory. You are invited to send me a message to my Facebook page at Ben Moody. We will announce what organization in the next coming days. Thank you all, He was a great man and a pillar of support for so many.

More from Ben Moody:
Thank You to all who have commented and written regarding my father's death. The service will be held on Wednesday June, 7th 11:00 AM at the following location.

Cloyd Funeral Home & Cremation Service
209 Third Ave. North ~ PO Box 595
Lewistown, MT 59457
(406) 538-8711 ~ (800) 219-8711

(please tag and share this post with Rons friends as we are not going to be able to have the obituary in the News Argus until the day of the funeral.)

Also please comment that you are coming so we can have a rough head count for the reception afterward. Thank You!

As well I would like to request instead of flowers to please make a donation in Ron Moodys name to The Montana Wildlife Federation or Friends of The Missouri Breaks. If you feel there is another organization you would like to donate to that would honor his passion for conservation please do so in his name and I would be honored to receive a letter of acknowledgment from them. I will provide the links in the comments below.

I remember in 1993 when Ron came to a wild game dinner in Helena, hosted by Orion The Hunters Institute, introduced himself to all of us on the Board, and pronounced he was here to be an activist. He quickly became just that, and a valued mind on many topics, able to listen to opposing views without feeling slighted.

He would often come to my presentations, driving down from Lewistown, sit in the front row, and ask questions of all sorts. I enjoyed his engagement. He always sent me notes of encouragement when he read where “the bastards” were grinding on me. Made me smile to read them.

He will be missed, as will his ability to find the silver lining in even the darkest cloud.

CouleeKing was one of the great conservationists, and just a wonderfully nice guy. Montana will be poorer without him and is richer for his time under the Big Sky.

This was shocking news to say the least. Ron was a friend, confidant and mentor to so many of us who advocate for wildlife, public lands and the Public Trust. He was an outstanding commissioner who took the time to hear from everyone before he decided on an issue. He will be missed. Montana owes Ron Moody a debt of gratitude that it can never repay.

Hope you are chasing those big coulee bucks in the Happy Hunting Grounds my friend.

PLWA/BHA - a great means to further his voice. Rest in Peace, Ron Moody.
