Man Dead On Futon For Nearly 10 Years Before Family Notices

TOKYO -- A Japanese man and his two sisters were worried something might be wrong with dad. And they were right.

The old man had been dead for nearly a decade. Police questioned the three elderly siblings Tuesday, after the decomposing body of their father was found lying on a futon bed in the family's home.

Police said the man's children thought he was still alive, but became worried lately and consulted a relative. Police said judging by the condition of the remains, the father could have died as long as 10 years ago.

The man's name has been withheld, but his nickname has to do with his initials of "JB"

I was going to say that I should check on my father-in-law but he just came home from hospital yesterday.

I guess as the story I read went, the part of the family that was taking care of the old man was getting a check every year and gifts from different orgs because of the old guy's age.
They were probably getting some sort of check every month I would guess also.
They told the reporters every year at interviews that he was to frail to move, that is why he wasn't brought into the publics eye. The old man beeing dead and all, they were more than likely correct on that part.
