Any hetero-huntsman worth a subtention o' salt is runnin' a Huskemaw with on a 300 Jarrett with more dials than a F18....and a jolly roger decal on the canoe paddle end.

....laffin

Love the "I'm better than thou" attitudes some have shown here..;) I too always hope for the closest shot possible, no matter what weapon is in hand. The fact of backing up just to make the shot more challenging, well, a little silly to me.

As long as the hunter is CONFIDENT in his ability to make the shot , thats all that matters. I shot my farthest animal last year at just over 400 yards. Which to me is the maximum effective range for MY ability. However i watched a guy shoot two elk last year, one at 800 and one at 830 with his fancy long range gun. One shot, one drop...same with the second one....I don't know how that is any less ethical than another guy that drops one with one shot at 100 yards.

I will always strive for the closest shot possible but to call someone an irresponsible hunter just because he shoots long range is ridiculous...............The guy that shot the two elk at 800+, well, two weeks prior to that, he put 5 shots in a 2.55" group at 925 yards. I would hardly call shooting at those two elk irresponsible.

Now if it was me shooting at those same to elk with my rifle, that would be irresponsible..........Depends on the person, and the weapon, thats all there is to it..

To each his own.

Very well stated C.G.

I'm in MT for the first week of rifle with what sounds like the same guy. Lives at the range and is very well equiped for it. Unreal to watch at the range. Have no issues with whatever shot he might take. Myself on the other hand, my limit is far less than his.

Good luck to all.

I said nowhere that we would be backing up for a longer shot!!!!..... thanks for reading way in too deep on this thread guys.... wow... if the shot longer than 725 yards presented itself he would gladly take it.... he ended up shooting one at a mere 400 yards and I shot mine at about 100 yards....

If it's legal go have fun.
.
My chance at the challenge of killings an elk with a spear doesn't seem legal. I guess I'll have to try an ultra long range shot with Dink's high dollar bushnell scope using factory ammo. Now that would be a challenge.

If I had a spear and it was legal I think I would have been more inclined to stab a 300 class bull that almost stepped on me a couple days ago. You know archery is way to easy to go out and kill Dink bulls. You know what I mean, almost boring. To each his own, go get them. Whatever gets your rocks off. I'm sick of the holier than thou wanna bee's also.
