Anyone use them good/bad experiences. I have been with American family for 20 years and ive never had a problem. There prices however are getting out of control and I'm looking to make a switch possibly. To the tune of about 18% savings annually. On all of our policies. I just dont want to save 18% and they end up being a nightmare to deal with. TIA

I don't, but my first move would be to tell American Family that Liberty has a much cheaper rate and then see if they budge. Play the loyalty card, that sometimes works depending on who you get on the phone.

Thanks that is my plan as well but wanted to check before I call there bluff.

Do you get a discount for having multiple policies?
I do now with amfam, liberty mutual cant bundle me because our nearest fire dept. Is like 11 miles from here and its volunteer. But even without bundling I'd still save like $1500 annually with liberty.

I used to have everything with State Farm. Boat, vehicles, house, and toys. The house went way up and I had someone shop rates for me from a pile of places and it ended up being cheaper by quite a bit to split up and use seperate for homeowner, separate for toys, separate for guiding/boat insurance, and separate for vehicles.

I can't speak to Liberty specifically, but seems like there's no loyalty perks in insurance I've realized! It also seems like the bundle and save is a joke too.

That's a good chunk of money. I'm with State Farm and have been happy enough overall to not even look elsewhere.
We had a hale claim on our roof 2 years ago. I called 3 roofers one a family friend I've known all my life. Literally the first thing all 3 asked was "do you have state farm? Because if you do im not interested" I found that to be pretty interesting.

My home insurance has gone from $1800 annual to $4000 over the past few years. California. 1800,2200,3000 and now another 25% to 4000. California home insurance statewide is a mess.

Just got an online quote for my car and truck from Progressive (first one that popped up) and they were $170/yr cheaper combined. Not enough to mess with. My agent has been awesome any time we've needed her. State Farm DID tell us years ago they were going to cancel our home policy unless we replaced the windows and the asbestos shingle siding. New windows and encapsulated the shingles instead of tearing them off. Made the house look better and added more insulation to the exterior walls. No issues with them since.

This should not necessarily be taken as a bad thing from SF. Hail damage roof repair is an enormous arena for contractor scams. Not saying your damage wasn't real, just that SF pushes back harder than many others on hail damage claims because so many of them are scams from Storm Chasing roofing contractors.

Makes sense. I didnt even think we had that much damage. They sent an adjuster out and he pretty much demanded we replace the roof.

I have Liberty Mutual. I felt like I had good coverage. We had a pipe fail and do damage to the 1st floor and finished basement. Here was my take away
  • I moved faster then them. They couldn't keep up. I was a contractor but now work for one. I wanted things to move fast. They did not.
  • I had no problem getting an estimate together. The only question I had was my current flooring runs under the cabinets. Would Liberty pay for the cabinets to be pulled and replaced. This lead to we will send someone by to look. That someone was a local restoration company estimator who was 35min late. They would provide a full estimate and that would be used to determine damage. All I asked was a question about cabinets? I watched the person taking measurements to provide and estimate. It takes about 2 sec of watching someone pull a tape measure to see if its muscle memory or awkward. This was very awkward. I watched her measure a door. I already knew the measurement. Doors are typically either 3080 or 3070. Residential is typically 3680. Then she measured another. Finally I couldn't hold it in. "they are all the same. 3' x 6'8". It took almost 3 weeks to receive the estimate
  • So obviously I did not use the restoration company. There total came in. Liberty said they will cut me a check. But it would be less 10% for depreciation. Depreciation?? What is that. They explained that once work is complete that gets released. Its to guarantee the repairs are made. Makes sense
  • I used the subcontractors I work with everyday and had the work completed. As most owners do I did more then the repair
  • When work was complete I reached out for the 10%. They not only wanted pictures they wanted receipts. No problem. But I told them to be aware that my receipts included work not part of the damage
  • I never received the 10%. Assuming because I acted as the GC myself but I don't know. They will not respond anymore to me asking for it?
  • Long story short I am actively searching for another insurance company
  • My cost's doubled in 4 years for no apparent reason other then the cost of materials?

Thank you for the honest reply. Not what I wanted to hear. But thats helpful my roof experience was much much smoother than that.

Pots and Kettles, tsk tsk tsk.
Insurance is a government mandated scam where you are required to protect your (lender's) interest against unforseen circumstances at your expense. My strategy; pay off whatever you can and then go cherry pick policies that cover what you need, not what the bank requires to cover their ass in the event you have a bad day.
An entire industry has been built on the hand/glove relationship between lending and Insurance. Insurance agents are on par with the Storm Chasing con-men they rail against.
Billions of dollars are wasted every year paying premiums to protect lenders. That said, I find Progressive and Allstate to be the most competitive for auto, I use American Modern for "stated-value" property insurance. Works good for places that are non-conforming to the standards set for homeowner policies (cabins, farm sites, barndominiums). Premiums tend to be a bit higher but I've not suffered the ass-raping premium increases since Covid like what homeowner policy holders have experienced. That, and the whole premis of a stated value policy is you carry no debt so the premium reflects what you decide you want for coverage not what is dictated by the bank.
