Legends of our youth

This pic had to have been taken 10-15 yrs after I was that age, closer to my two younger brothers. And Yes, I/They did that crap and Nobody got sued if it 'went a bit off plan" ! We proudly share pic's of broken arms/legs/black eyes/ bloody noses/broken teeth. They're our Badge Of Honor for learning, the hard way, not to do Stupid!!!

Glad you caught that too. With only 3 channels on TV there was not much entertainment, except the kids. (or your wife)

I remember ripping the sliding board off our old metal swing set to make a ramp like that. Fun times! At least until my dad got home form work and discovered what we’d done..

I grabbed my sisters bike to see if I could fly farther on a lighter bike. The bike broke in half on the landing because there was not a cross bar from the seat to the steering column. Dad welded a cross member along with the repair weld. The flyer was now mine and my sister got a new bike out of the deal.

How many of you did this to your bike? My first money making venture was when I was about 8 or 9 years old. I’d do bike repairs and mods for other kids. I had an inventory of scrap bikes that I used for parts, and for $5 I’d cut the front forks off of a scrap bike and mount them to the ends of the existing forks of the customer’s bike to make it a “chopper”. The parents usually weren’t too thrilled about it...

Late to the party but just saw this

And--speaking of us older folks

A week or so ago a young woman drove up in a beautiful sports car and I said to her "she's a beauty"----and you would have thought I punched her in the face. She proceeded to tell me that a car is not a "she" and a "she" is not an object, to be admired. She went on to say these type of things are not going to change until all us "old" people are gone !

I smiled and said "you might be right but she should relax and enjoy the beautiful day "MOTHER" Earth has provided to us today and that God loves all "his" children !

Gr8bawana, or from a well, if you didn't have running water (-:
Wildabeast Scars, tattoo with better stories (-;
Guunner46--and before those three channels ---Fibber MaGee and Molly and Inner Sanctum on the radio was never missed (-;

Thanks Gunner46 for the post reminder. How did all us OLD people live this long without all of todays rules and regulations ??

We didn't have a tv until 1959 and then only cbs (sometimes) until late 60s. We just focused on hunting and fishing for lack anything else to do. And yes creek water tastes pretty good.

This was a popular mod in my day.

When you grow up in the country you make your own fun. I think a couple days after I got up on two wheels on a bike He taught me what a powerslide was. Home made ramps...Oh hell yeah!

I recall being envious of my friends on the Coast Guard Base with their paved streets and sidewalks....

I've tried to give my kids the same experiences and they are certainly tougher than their town counterparts...

I think I had "bike helmet" on every Christmas list for 5 years in a row as a kid. I never got one. My mom must have figured my head wasn't worth it. She was probably right. I also remember having to get a tooth pulled for some dental work. The dentist asked if she wanted to save money by skipping Novocain and she agreed. I recall the crunching sound of the extraction as much as the pain.

I'm doing my best to let my kids have the same experiences that I had, but I have to admit that I like seeing a helmet between their skulls and the pavement.

I grew up in a suburb of Philadelphia that was full of kids all of us mostly unsupervised. All sorts of shenanigans went down, oh what kids will do on a dare. We had quite a few places with full on dirt jump circuits. One of them started in a clear cut at the bottom of a hill. We normally only used the very bottom of the hill to get enough speed. I'll never forget the day Tommy Jarenec accepted the dare to start at the top of the hill...
