It is so strange how the anti/non-hunting/public television crowd cannot stomach their own struggle for sustenance, yet cheer non-humans in their struggle, while belittling other humans who accept the fact and face the struggle. Can anyone explain that?
IMO, real people who hunt or struggle are threatening to them. I think that this is similar to the reaction of the media crowd or elites who ran away to Canada during Vietnam - they then had to belittle those who served so that they could claim they did the right thing by running away.
Wolves are so far removed from their reality as to be unreal - this makes them safe. They feel empathy for the wolves, but can ignore the bison.
As a hunter, I feel a kinship with other predators, but recognize that my kind has to come first.

To bad there wasn't a training exercise going on. Someone could have gotten good at calling in a airstrike.
Not to pick on David, just using his post as an example.
Part of the reason, especially with critters like wolves, bears, etc, is that the perception that hunters hate competitors becomes the reality when we talk about "SSS" or the need to smoke a pack a day. While we get it, and we're being funny, frustrated w/ the politics of ESA or truly don't like wolves, it strikes a nerve with the non-hunting public. That segment of the public grows each year, as our numbers shrink.
We are the folks with our hands in the gut piles, and we understand how natural systems work, and what is needed to maintain abundant wildlife populations (all wildlife, btw).
I've heard several folks in the enviro community say something like "Don't hunters get that conserving grizzly bear habitat means increased elk habitat?"
My response is this: Don't the enviros get that when RMEF puts a conservation easement on private ground, or negotiates land swaps, that grizzly bears and wolves benefit? When the Wild Sheep Foundation or National Wildlife Federation negotiates domestic sheep allotment retirements in the GYE for Bighorns, grizz now have less conflict?
The disconnect is there, maybe it comes down to simply having our existence defined by the margins on both sides. Maybe if we as hunters show restraint and respect for others, we'll get more in return.
TJones and Shoots Straight have done a ton of work to increase elk in the Bitterroot, That includes taking out predators. They've done it in a manner is respectful of all sides, IMO. Others however, start their diatribe against the Fed, etc, and it turns people off to the real needs that exist to manage all critters.

There is a decent chance you need more coffee, but you're also 100% right with the rest as well.

There's 25 in that pack and Crittergitter and I saw 13 last year in one spot so I gotta believe it's possible. We also heard at least 2 other groups in the area howling that weren't part of the 13. Funny thing is that I went to a local meeting where the bio said that there are 12 in the pack in the area we saw and heard all of these Maybe it was a mirage.
I'm hoping Fin and him are hunting in that area right now.

I agree with you Ben. I was just being a smart ass on the air shot. I don't think you were picking,you were just showing a point, of how antis may perceive it.
I know you and a few good others on this site are good at what you do, You have the means and know how to put into perspective, fact or opinions.
I realized these wolves are in another part of the world. But with a pack that size, they could wipe out a herd in a specific area. I understand that there needs to be some balance in the outdoor world. There needs to be some predators in all eco systems or it won't survive.
I'm sure there are Antis on this site checking out what we say. I was talking to my wife about the wolf debate. She asked why would you want to kill one of those. My response was to her. You have to control numbers or they will be in control . She understands why there must be hunting to preserve nature. But a lot off the public non hunters don't.
I don't like snakes. Do I kill them all? No, because they are needed in the system also.
I read a hell of a lot on this site. It's very informative, on certain issues. Keep up the good work, Everyone.

There are 3 things I think we could do without and that I hate and they are Bears, Snakes, and Wind. I'm gonna have a chat with creator when I die as to why we needed those three things.

Crazy watching that video. At the end that other Buffalo seals the fate of the one being attacked. That is too funny to watch that buffalo flip the other one over. It doesn't even look like it was trying to help it get away.
