Caribou hunting is one of the funnest things a guy can do over a weekend. We spotted lots of bulls, scattered throughout the hills and a couple where real wall hangers... Also, had a FC ram in our sights, but only being a 7yo he got a pass as he was JUST full curl. Fun stalk none the less..
My nephew Kimber-ized this XL bull on Saturday, which was also his first big game animal. Fun spot and stalk, and a heart pounding 5 min exercise in calming buck fever as the bull fed inside 120 yards but offered no shot. When he finally got the chance, he pulled it off with two excellent shots. The second wasn't needed, but the bull was still standing so he hit him again. Both were within 2 inches of each other. Super proud of this kid. He's about 120lbs after a big meal, and packed about 1/2 his weight in gear and meat through some serous ball busting bush and steep hillsides. He'll be amazed to learn that many people go at this a bit differently, and much and easier... but then again effort generally equals success...
Had a chance to shoot a bull moose, but didn't really want to deal with tourist along the highway, so it got a free pass. Alaska, where dreams come true on a daily basis.
Sheep in them hills.
and caribou in them hills...
Still can't believe we pulled this off without a $1500 "system" of camo clothing.
