I had a 06 for years. Got sold on the 270. It has dispatched multiple elk and deer with no problem. It is a flat shooter. I have a 788 Rem 240 too and that thing flat out shoots rounds. Grouping on a dime

I have a lightweight 270 that I got with the plan to take it on a sheep hunt. That didn’t happen, but I used it for a bear and for my only mule deer. I thought about my cartridge choice as we drove by the Jack O’Connor Center on our way to the deer hunt.
BTW - I have heard too many stories of success with the 270 on elk and moose to consider it as just a “deer cartridge.”
Confidence is work here, plus shooting from the unconscious mind.I live out west. I have an older Remington 700 BDL that I eventually dropped in a CDL stock. It has taken every big game animal I’ve shot, except for my first whitetail last year in Virginia. It’s also responsible for my son’s first three mule deer. Every animal, to include elk, has only required one shot to drop, 130 grain through 150’s. It’s not a MOA shooter, but that’s never been a handicap.
Blued, walnut, not the most efficient cartridge out there, and not my most accurate rifle. It just works every year, again and again. How is this possible?
