In Praise of The Winchester .270. Any good words to say about it ?

I had a 06 for years. Got sold on the 270. It has dispatched multiple elk and deer with no problem. It is a flat shooter. I have a 788 Rem 240 too and that thing flat out shoots rounds. Grouping on a dime

I have a lightweight 270 that I got with the plan to take it on a sheep hunt. That didn’t happen, but I used it for a bear and for my only mule deer. I thought about my cartridge choice as we drove by the Jack O’Connor Center on our way to the deer hunt.

BTW - I have heard too many stories of success with the 270 on elk and moose to consider it as just a “deer cartridge.”

I guess that I called it a "deer cartridge" because all that I hunt is whitetail deer. I never said that it was "just a deer cartridge", and I mentioned that my neighbor uses it for elk and moose with good success.

The .270 is easily my favorite all around rifle for deer and elk. It’s also a lot more gun than most people give it credit for on the bigger animals.
