Im here to admit - im not proud of it but as an Iowan Ive always been somewhat of a fair weather hunter as in not hunting in the rain . Snow ? No problem . Rain ? Problem. . We are leaving to go chase muleys with archery equipment Sunday but the forecast for SD looks like rainnnnnnnn. Youd think the 100s of dollars ive spent over the year on camo packs boots optics broadheads arrows and first lite gear id pick up a set for hunting in the rain but well you know what the thread title is . Any advice on how to do this or gear I can pick up quick ? Clear poncho or earth tone poncho worth the effort or am I crazy and better off staying in the camper twiddling my thumbs? ? I only have about 5 days and want to make the best of it . I dont like wasting time especially when im out of state hunting. Might learn my lesson this time ! Do you guys typically pack a rain suit ?

Thanks

Out west, early season (so everything prior to now) I generally don't unless the forecast is really daunting. But from here on out, I will have my rain gear as the weather moves in. You can get a cheapo Frogg Togg suit for this trip, but I would invest in something more robust.

I have bought stuff at Cabelas (Cabelas brand) before strictly for rain that served its purpose well. The bottoms were $35 to $40 and the top jacket was about the same. It was like very light weight, easy to pack, and serves its function.

Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Any gear capable of fending off rain will also likely make you sweat like a pig in this weather. Look through Cabela's selection and if needed they might hold it for you at the Mitchell store.
