Wanted to get peoples thoughts on going on a late season cow elk hunt DYI or wait a year and go for a better unit? Should note I drew one of the tags I had hoped for just want to chase elk while I can

As an extra hunt - do it. As an only hunt, pass…. unless you are simply needing to fill the freezer. Whitetails are good for that if needed too.

I am more and more committed to only doing hunts that are going to be a fun more than frustrating experience from now on. Accordingly, I am sending back a lesser tier bull tag in CO and jumping with excitement for an antelope / fishing trip to WY this fall.

I second all of the other opinions here... Hunt. Always a ton to learn in a new unit, especially a crappy one.

Depends, is there access for your cow hunt? If it's the crappy area I know then no I would not without access lined up.
But , elk wander far and wide late season looking for refuge. You might just get intio them, can't do that at home.
