NM Unit 12 Elk

I got lucky enough to draw a NM unit 12 late season hunt. I’m fairly new to big game hunting and have only hunted elk once before with no luck. Have put in lots of time on OnX and have a some ideas on where I’m going to focus on. I’m headed to the unit sometime in the next couple of weeks. Any thoughts or info about the unit would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Bone dry, bad monsoon year. Hopefully we get some rain before winter.
Cattle water is only water.
Saw 4 dead calves along the roads the other day. All were very small. Like July calves without spots, deer size. Not good.
Bulls silent here.
Still seeing a few in trucks.
