Hi fellas. All my plans fell through for elk this year.

Now I’m looking at the leftover list for CO. Specifically a cow hunt that me and my 10 year old son can go and have fun on and hopefully bring home some meat.

Theres a ton of cow tags on there, is the strategy for picking a unit to find one that’s an “A” list? I’d be open to muzzy, archery, 1st rifle.

I’m not looking to take my kiddo late season rifle. Don’t think that’s smart. Nor an extreme elevation unit.

I hope you all drew good tags and have a great year lined up ahead.

A list cow tags can have a tendency to be better hunting because they are often, but not always, in units managed for quality.

Plenty of good B tags tho. I’d focus on terrain that suits you two then look at success and herd stats.

Some either sex tags might do the trick too.

I’m not sure on Colorado but many states you can look up harvest statistics on a unit. How many hunters, number of hours, etc. combine that with research on public access and the type of terrain you want to hunt.

The terrain is probably my biggest hurdle so that’s a great tip for where to start. Thanks for the input

Again, great tip on filtering out the terrain. I want it to be mainly enjoyable. If it turns into a $825 tag soup camping trip I’m good with that. Memories will be made
