Me and my dad drew cow tags today in a unit I hunted last year on the general tag. Just wondering the difference in archery season and rifle hunting pressure? The type 6 tag in this unit has 2 weeks before general rifle so that’s good. I think there is around 150 tags. Really thinking of being there for the opening of rifle but had a great hunt in September last year. Thoughts?

When does it end?

Rifle goes from Oct till Dec. The spots I know are high elevation rut areas.

yeah I bet the woods will be pretty dead. You do have a mule deer season going on then I think before gen starts yeah? Either way, they probably won’t be a bother and those elk will be where you find em in September in that area.

I’d hunt the cows on winter range in November/December if possible.

I think this is another reason why the woods will be even "deader" and season opener is a good idea. Most people will likely wait for some migration. And like OP, if you already know the area and have killed elk in september in the same places why not go back in with a rifle the day after september?

Great time to be in the woods, low pressure, know the area, know where elk are? No brainer to me.

Thanks everyone. Exited for my first rifle elk hunt just wasn’t sure what the pressure would be like.

Can I ask what gmu this is? Reason I ask Is Wyoming has certain areas you can hunt on if there is an associated HMA. Pm me if you don’t know what I’m talking about.
