Periodic reminder to check in on those friends you haven't heard from in a bit.

Guy I play hockey with started pulling away about a year ago and his antics got so bad that we just kinda let him go. He said he was moving so we thought that he was going to be it. Turns out it was worse than all of that and he shot himself this past weekend, he was barely 30.

I'm not lookin for sympathy here or nothing, just do me a favor and go through your text threads and find one that's a few pages back and say 'what's up'

One of the more significant memories I have from 20 years on the job is just how frequently people commit suicide. Unfortunately a rather routine call. Often times the investigation started as if a homicide, until we could determine it was a suicide. We end up talking to a lot of people in the process. As Chama Grande noted, invariably people told us. “ I thought something was off with him lately”. Make the call, send a text. You may make the difference.

This.

The old saying you are one bad day from losing everything is true. My family and especially me are dealing with some extremely difficult times. I'm aware that I'm not my normal self. Thoughts of that magnitude haven't happened. It's the few people that actually check in on me/us is why. They bring the positive vibe. Alot have already been through what we're dealing with. 1 event can truly start a snowball effect. You'll also see how truly ugly people can be. Especially "friends".

Check in people. It matters.
