Had a few skulls that I hadn't decided how to display, until my better half suggested just hanging the skulls on a "vacant" wall, no plaques, adornments, etc. They're nothing special as far as "trophy quality", but they all mean something to me.

Poked around, and decided on a D-ring picture hanger for the skulls (Less than $2 at Michael's). Was able to drill a pilot hole and run the screws in without cracking the bone.

Used a few of the "Monkey Hooks" to hang them on the wall. Basically they are a C-shape with an extra hook on the end, where the end of the wire presses against the drywall a couple inches above where it goes into the wall. Worked great for the deer and pronghorn, but I might have to find something else for the elk- the skull wants to rotate forward, and this pulled the hook out a bit, which might compromise it's ability to hold. I'll look into that a bit later, though.

I might try dipping the teeth and other sharp points in white flex-seal or something, so it doesn't scratch up the wall paint. But the latex seems to be holding up pretty well so far. Might cut off the check bands, too, but haven't decided yet.

I use the Skull Hooker which brings them out from the wall and allows different positions, but your solution is quite a bit cheaper. Bet there is a bit of leverage with the elk skull.

I use the skull hooker system, I only have a few skulls and the heaviest is probably a wild boar. I like them away from the wall a bit but not sure how they would work on heavy skulls like kudu or gemsbok.

The D rings you mentioned are my go to and great for deer size stuff, but I feel they’re lacking for big heavy stuff. I’m personally not a fan of the skull hooker line of products because I think they’re ugly and I don’t want to see the hanger system. My preferred system is the ones sold at Dead on Display. Very subtle and as long as the base piece is secure it would take a major hit to knock it off the wall.

Good idea. Has a good look to it, nice and subtle. I agree about the skull hangers- I really dislike seeing the hardware, unless it’s a wood pedestal.

But I’m happy with my method to hang these for about $3.50 each.

The bull in my avatar is hanging on the wall via a skull hooker. Definitely made me nervous hanging it up but hasn't fallen in 6 years. Screw it into a stud.

Am I the only one who prefer them not to be flat against the wall?
Nah. My first muley is on a pedestal mount. Love it, but haven’t decided where to put it yet.

This option just got them hanging out of the way. I can always do something more with them later if I want to.

Got pics of the pedestal euro? Trying to figure something out like that with my bull from last year.

It’s not wanting to post the photo, but this is what I bought, in walnut. Set it up for a wall mount.

Gotcha I was thinking of like a base with a post type pedestal. I misunderstood.
