Nice Ben, like the cartridge choice too. I just about had a .300 H&H recently but it got away darn it.

The #1, IMHO, epitomizes the perfect balance of form and function.

You ain't just whistling dixie. It's a light, trim design that shoulders very well and balances wonderfully. I've only shot it at 25 yards to get it sighted in but even with the heavy 286 grain pill, it's not unpleasant to shoot. If I can get the handloads to group properly, I think the other rifles will be kept in the safe for the upcoming season.

I have one in .338 Win Mag. Love the balance and feel. The 9.3 would be fun to shoot.

Mine doesn't group all that well - unless I am very specific of where I place the gun on the tripod. I bought a Hick's accurizer to put on it - project hasn't been completed yet. Reminds me I need to get on it.

That looks like a Blast of a rifle. There's something to be said for frontal surface diameter... Big relatively blunt expanding slugs at moderate velocites produce lots of death quite quickly...

I've always somewhat coveted a big bore #1. Something like a 450-400 3"...

I was window shopping at cabelas last weekend and they had quite a few #1's in 458 Lott, 416 Rigby and 405 win. I imagine any of those would be interesting to shoot!

I absolutely love the #1 and have shot a wide variety of big bores in my time from 600 overkill, 500 nitro, 505 Gibbs, 500 Jeffery and on in different platforms from double rifles to bolts and all were manageable. The hardest kicking rifle I ever shot was a #1 Tropical in 458 win mag. That son of a gun flat kicked like a mule.

I don't think I would want one in a cartridge any larger that either the 9.3 or 375 H&H.
Now that was a few decades ago and I have learned a thing or two about shooting big bores since then but there is also a reason you see a lot of #1's in some of those Big Big bores for sale.

So we should be able to hunt in Yellowstone with those?!!
Ben, I'm told your cell # is wrong, in spite of numerous people telling me otherwise?
So you won't return calls about your heinous posts on Facebook, on the Todd Wilkinson thread?
Good luck with that one. And tell Mundinger HI

Nice rifle, Ben! You will enjoy it. Ruger #1's are great rifles. Here's mine in .35 Ackley Magnum Improved, built by the Erhardt's in Helena many years ago. 25" Shilen barrel, 3010 fps with 250 gr. Noslers. At 9 lbs. it's not particularly brutal to shoot or pack. I've taken several bulls with it. The Erhardt's do incredible work!

Just tried again, but clearly having an Ackley Improved doesn't require answering the phone!
Maybe tomorrow...

Well what happened to Ben?
And besides, pm's...
I'll try again tomorrow, but credibility has gone downhill...

I've only shot a #1 once, but I'm thinking I'd really like to have one. However, instead of a large bore I'm probably picking something smaller and rimmed. 220 Swift would be a fun one!

Hi Bill,

I got your profane facebook message, angry voicemails and 5 calls inside of 90 minutes. Sorry i wasn't available. Our dog needed to be picked up from surgery and dealt with and since i've spent the last week up at the capitol working the 9 known bison bills as well as various other bills, I decided that i would spend the evening with my family rather than getting screamed at by you. Sorry. I have a full day today, but will try to call you so we can, hopefully, rationally discuss your issue. If I don't call you by tonight, feel free to give me a call tomorrow.

Moose- that 350 is a beast! Nice rifle. The Erhardts do fantastic work.

Tyler, i could go for one in a 220 swift. That would be a great combo.
