Group 1 passengers

Same. Hate the game, not the player :)

But if it was literally no time difference, it would be an option. Airlines have gotten way better over the years at not losing bags so minus rare statistical anomalies, it’s mostly a time thing (and also a cost issue for pax that don’t have any status).

Two thursdays ago at LaGuardia, we sat in the penalty box for 2 hours as there was a line of storms from Detroit to DFW so very limited westbound routings were available, returned to the gate and deplaned, sat in the terminal for another 2 hours waiting on a new crew, then the new crew timed out on there way over from Newark.

Spent another couple of hours delayed the next day (our assigned crew had been 5h delayed landing Thursday night also so they hadn’t met the required rest period) got home 23 hours late. Usually 1-2 of those a year depending on the airport.

Air travel is still unbelievably available, safe, and efficient in the grand scheme of things, but events like those still sting.
I’ve been stranded overnight 3 times in the past year - all international flights. Rebooking becomes a real shitshow when there’s not but one flight a day going where you need to go and suddenly you’ve got a couple hundred people needing rebooked. As a 2+ million-miler, though, Delta generally takes pretty good care of me.

Take a seat within sight of the check in. Wait until “final boarding call”. Get in the plane. When the flight attendant comes by, say you can’t find a spot for your carry on and they’ll find a spot for it for you. When you get off the plane stand up when the people in front of you start moving.

There. You don’t waste any of your time. Try to ignore the sheep.

I flew to Alaska mid 2020 when the aisle row was left empty. Delta seated from back to front, with flight attendants more involved in the process. Passengers could only use the bin above their seats. Plane was boarded in about 15 mins.
Like others, I fly quite frequently and the goat rodeo of boarding never ceases to amaze. From the person with a carry on bag the size of a smart car looking around in shocked dismay that it won’t fit in the bin to the one who has to unpack their laptop, IPad, chargers, book, pillow and snacks for an hour flight.

Flying and observing is a great human observation exercise.

Carryon rules are ignore, at least sizes. People put 2 above the seats, people put the bag upfront and sit in the back

Getting off is just as bad as people try to run forward to get off first.

Some of the smoothest plane ezits ive seen are when you're delayed and they ask you to stay seated until the tight connection folks get off.

Don’t get me started. Loading the plane from front to back is the most stupid thing imaginable. Think of how much more efficient it would be if you started loading the passengers in the back first. No one would have to wait while people put their luggage in the overhead or walk past everybody that’s already seated.
Alaska Airlines would board back to front in the past but why they switched it up makes no sense.

I'm as guilty as anyone, but if people would just have a little patience. Everyone is getting on and off the plane. It's not like the last 10 people don't get on. Wait until your group is called before getting in line and wait until they get to your row before exiting. And for hells sake, if there is a senior citizen or a single mom by you struggling to get their bag into or out of the overhead, give them a hand. Pet peeve of mine...

My goal is to take my seat as they close the cabin door. Never understood the appeal of rushing to board only to wait in a stuffy seat for 30 minutes.

Can we talk about the "planeside baggage retrieval on jetway" circus next?

Let's make everyone line up on the jet way, "right side please" where NOBODY can see when their bag comes up...then loop back down the wrong direction on the jetway to finally retrieve your roll aboard and swim traffic upstream again trying to leave the jetway

Literal circles of circus

I try to avoid those small planes whenever possible. For multiple reasons, but that’s one of them.

Airplane coach class.

AKA: "The flying petri dish of the sky...."
I did a nonstop from Abu Dhabi to Chicago on the back of the bus...once. 13.5 hrs and the lav didn't get so much as a courtesy wipedown.

At one point a boy about 6 years old was just standing the in aisle with the lav door open trying to see if he could piss in the toilet from there (he couldn't, but hey he's 6 and stuck in an airplane for over half a day so I guess you gotta pass the time somehow)

Type 2 fun though

You can fix the boarding problems by not allowing all these big-a$$ rolling bag as carry-ons. They are luggage, make people check them. You get a small laptop backpack or handbag, period.
Kills me seeing some someone whose case is bigger than there are trying to lift it into the bin. I mean, if Alaska want $200 dollars for a bag over 50#, shouldn't they weight carry-ons too?

A bigger pet peeve for me is all the cattle standing up in the aisle before the door is even open.

Agree 100% but unfortunately live where I do and air travel all too often involves one of those bug smashers
Come to think of it, the only puddle jumpers I’ve been on in recent memory were in and out of Des Moines! The small planes suck, but it’s nice knowing I can leave my meeting at the Capital 30 mins before boarding time without any concern on whether I make the flight or not.

I stepped into the aisle on my last flight when the Italian teenagers were attempting to bum rush the exit. My patience was exceeded when two of the group elbowed past an elderly person trying to get her bag down.
The remaining of the group waited until every seat was cleared before I moved up.

It kind of sucks when you are running late and the flight attendant doesn't offer to let you off first. I can understand people moving forward quickly when faced with missing a connection and spending the night in some city.

I have missed flights by 1 or 2 minutes after waiting 10 minutes or more to get off the plane. Some people have tight connections and there isn't much they can do about it.

Valid points

I’ve been on flights where they loaded rear first. What a cluster.

People with sears in the rear put their carryons in the front overhead storage so when the people with seats in the front got on, they had to go to the back of the plane to stow their carryons and then work back against incoming passengers to get to their seat.

The same cluster happens when they get ready to exit the plane. Front passengers have to work their way against the morons standing in the aisle to get their carryons and then work their way back to the front of the plane against the same morons plus the others coming to the rear to get their stuff.

Rear seating would work better in theory if people weren’t so stupid.

Preach brother!

Window seats first, front to back then go front to back for the rest (middles and aisles). On wide bodies wth two aisles then do center seats in seats between the two aisles as board windows.

Jackwads screw up rear seating first as they are prone to toss carryon luggage in first open slot as get onto the plane to head down the aisle.

Charging $50 and more for checked baggage led to more carryon and very full planes also meant more carryons. Airlines need to charge for carryons that exceed size and weight. Is insane when get clicked by 100 pound carryon that is not controlled as pulled outwards from the overhead.

I spent last summer in Europe using trains and two planes where my entire luggage was a small carryon I had to buy pre-trip as size maximums are enforced overseas. I got new skills as culled much if what would previously take to fly within America for a week on the road. Is liberating. My back was quite pleased.

I forgot how much it sucked to be in the back of a MD tin can narrow body when got a flight on American Airlines as was only non-stop and was a seat problem at the gate so I was in the back row of the plane. Took 35 minutes to exit from when door popped open. Southwest Airlines was never more than 15 minutes to clear their plane in my experience on 100s of flights so was slowly questioning my life choices trapped by the toilet for so long. Is like when are in a 75mph zone for hours then hit 60mph zone…is maddening.
