But if it was literally no time difference, it would be an option. Airlines have gotten way better over the years at not losing bags so minus rare statistical anomalies, it’s mostly a time thing (and also a cost issue for pax that don’t have any status).


Two thursdays ago at LaGuardia, we sat in the penalty box for 2 hours as there was a line of storms from Detroit to DFW so very limited westbound routings were available, returned to the gate and deplaned, sat in the terminal for another 2 hours waiting on a new crew, then the new crew timed out on there way over from Newark.

Spent another couple of hours delayed the next day (our assigned crew had been 5h delayed landing Thursday night also so they hadn’t met the required rest period) got home 23 hours late. Usually 1-2 of those a year depending on the airport.

Air travel is still unbelievably available, safe, and efficient in the grand scheme of things, but events like those still sting.

I’ve been stranded overnight 3 times in the past year - all international flights. Rebooking becomes a real shitshow when there’s not but one flight a day going where you need to go and suddenly you’ve got a couple hundred people needing rebooked. As a 2+ million-miler, though, Delta generally takes pretty good care of me.

Take a seat within sight of the check in. Wait until “final boarding call”. Get in the plane. When the flight attendant comes by, say you can’t find a spot for your carry on and they’ll find a spot for it for you. When you get off the plane stand up when the people in front of you start moving.

There. You don’t waste any of your time. Try to ignore the sheep.

I flew to Alaska mid 2020 when the aisle row was left empty. Delta seated from back to front, with flight attendants more involved in the process. Passengers could only use the bin above their seats. Plane was boarded in about 15 mins.
Like others, I fly quite frequently and the goat rodeo of boarding never ceases to amaze. From the person with a carry on bag the size of a smart car looking around in shocked dismay that it won’t fit in the bin to the one who has to unpack their laptop, IPad, chargers, book, pillow and snacks for an hour flight.

Flying and observing is a great human observation exercise.

Carryon rules are ignore, at least sizes. People put 2 above the seats, people put the bag upfront and sit in the back

Getting off is just as bad as people try to run forward to get off first.

Some of the smoothest plane ezits ive seen are when you're delayed and they ask you to stay seated until the tight connection folks get off.

Don’t get me started. Loading the plane from front to back is the most stupid thing imaginable. Think of how much more efficient it would be if you started loading the passengers in the back first. No one would have to wait while people put their luggage in the overhead or walk past everybody that’s already seated.

Alaska Airlines would board back to front in the past but why they switched it up makes no sense.

I'm as guilty as anyone, but if people would just have a little patience. Everyone is getting on and off the plane. It's not like the last 10 people don't get on. Wait until your group is called before getting in line and wait until they get to your row before exiting. And for hells sake, if there is a senior citizen or a single mom by you struggling to get their bag into or out of the overhead, give them a hand. Pet peeve of mine...

My goal is to take my seat as they close the cabin door. Never understood the appeal of rushing to board only to wait in a stuffy seat for 30 minutes.

Let's make everyone line up on the jet way, "right side please" where NOBODY can see when their bag comes up...then loop back down the wrong direction on the jetway to finally retrieve your roll aboard and swim traffic upstream again trying to leave the jetway

I did a nonstop from Abu Dhabi to Chicago on the back of the bus...once. 13.5 hrs and the lav didn't get so much as a courtesy wipedown.

At one point a boy about 6 years old was just standing the in aisle with the lav door open trying to see if he could piss in the toilet from there (he couldn't, but hey he's 6 and stuck in an airplane for over half a day so I guess you gotta pass the time somehow)
