All these speedgoat posts have me reliving my glory day from the recent Montana opener. My scouting plan paid off perfectly as the buck I was hoping for showed himself about 10 minutes after legal shooting time. As I was trying to put a stalk on, he spotted me but curiosity got the best of him and he came right at me. After stopping at about 150 yds away, we just looked at each other as I slowly got into a seated shooting position (forgot my dang sticks and the grass was too tall for prone). He never turned broadside and I was afraid he would spook. I felt good about the frontal shot given that my time seemed limited so let out a round. He ran about about 100 yds and stopped when I fired again. This time he dropped and on closer inspection, he had a hole through the chest (I assume the 1st shot), and the second was right through the head. He's my biggest yet and is the start of an awesome week's vacation-so much upland birding to do. Good luck to all this season. It could end tomorrow for me and I would be happy- not that I would want that to happen
